A trial only works if the game is fun. Also, it needs to have enough content to last more than 10 days.

If you can read this, you're on a board populated by misogynist assholes.

Hur hur hur. Try and run through all of DDO's content in ten days, I dare you.

A free trial would just spread negative word of mouth.
The problem with the content is really not that there isn't a lot of content. Sure you can catass through it in 2 weeks if you play 24x7 but most normal people will take a long time to go through it. The problem is that catasses are largely the opinion leaders. Also the fact that all the content is basically the same doesn't help.
For most people the absolute amount of content is not a problem, it's content variety. The fact that most quests look and feel the same and that groups home in on the quests with the highest reward/risk and do them repeatedly, thereby cutting the perceived amount of content by quite a bit.

Not to mention that there were people who were level ten in only two days. You've hit on a new promotional campaign.
"DDO - Now with more than 10 days of content!" **
**Provided you play less than four hours a day.
And can someone tell me who the person in Tele's grief avatar is?

That isn't a grief avatar unless it was meant to grief the rest of us.

That isn't a grief avatar unless it was meant to grief the rest of us. It's a banner ad I saw on NewsMax. If you ever want to be really fucking scared by the sort of people your fellow citizens are, look no further than NewsMax's banner ads. That ad was the best of the bunch, though - just imagine the tangle of neuroses one would have to have for that ad to appeal to them... Not to mention that there were people who were level ten in only two days. What does that have to do with DDO's amount of content? DDO isn't about hitting level 10. It's not even about levelling up. All someone hitting level 10 in DDO tells me is that some people don't know how to play DDO, and so they try to play it like it's EQ. (FWIW, though, those level-10-in-two-days people you're referring to were making use of an exploit that's since been plugged) Though I disagree with some of the particulars, Margalis' post is relatively accurate.

You sound like the DDO boards right after release. The constant refrain of "You're playing it wrong" was always a laugh. Nowadays, as even the fanbois are hitting 10th with their second or third character, you don't hear it so much. I think the new mantra is "I'm sure they're working real hard to give us what we want in the unannounced free updates."

Uh, wha? DDO came out, like, a month and a week or so ago, right? I played for a month in beta, and I made it to about halfway through level 4, having seen maybe 25% of the game's content. I heard they've only slowed down XP since then on quests like Shan To Kor that gave me an obscene amount of XP back when I did them. "Even the fanbois are hitting 10th with their second or third character"? How many dozens of hours a week are they powergaming through the thing?

Heh, I've learned my lesson and try not to read MMO forums for games I'm already planning to play unless there's a really good reason (Such as PvP, where you need a place to talk shit). What you're saying certainly sounds possible, but I doubt it translates to the experience of a non-catass.

Oddly enough, it appealed enough to you to make it your avatar... *(Please note - this is intented as an observation/question and not a slam that Telemediocrity is a sociopath or has any neuroses.)

Heh, I suppose there's a fair chance I'll grow over the years into a jew-fro'd version of Steve Buscemi's character in Ghost World.
