War of the Worlds (any version) similarly saw automated robots poised to take over the planet. Stupid fuck doesn't know what War of the Worlds is about. Increasingly, legal notices, threats of litigation, and other legal process are being issued - and acted on - not by bespectacled gentlemen and women in crisp tailored suits, but by autobots, robots trained for litigation. I'll bet the decepticons are all defense attorneys. Also, robots are "programmed" not "trained". In fact, he became so good at the game, he achieved level sixty as a night elf rogue (this apparently means something to gamers). Nothing like gleeful ignorance of the subject matter. I'm only 1/3 of the way into this article and I just have to stop now. |

I'm only 1/3 of the way into this article and I just have to stop now. Yeah, no kidding. It looks like it's fairly tangential to the article, but still... ugh. And if you're trying to build sympathy for a case, you could do better than "Blizzard is stopping this noble player from selling an unauthorized book of 'hacks, cracks and cheats'." I do agree with the basic premise of the article, which seems to be the standard line that copyright laws are screwed up, but I don't really identify with this specific guy. Good for him that he's fighting back, but I really can't see it doing a whole lot for anyone other than him personally. Wake me up if it leads to some sort of sweeping change that might impact me, but it's not really SHOCKNIG that entertainment companies are going rabid to stop people fom touching their IP. |

The article's author could do with knowing what the fuck hes talking about, but on the other hand, the "Unauthorised MS Office book" argument makes sense to me. it appears to be just like one of the many 3rd-party, non-Official Prima guides to GTA San Andreas that either come free with a gaming rag or were sold in newsagents for ten bucks or so.. in fact, magazine publishers have been doing these unofficial guide-magazines (mostly filled with screenshots) for years, and there's several WoW ones out there too.

If they could make level have anything to do with skill, they'd be on to something. As for now, for most people it's a treadmill to endure so that they can gank people 40 levels below them and lol. (not bitter) |

Some bots you do train -- e.g. bots programmed as neural nets or those that use things like Bayesian analysis to do text analysis a la a spam filter. |
