Avatar Guidelines.

I've gotten some questions and requests about letting people make avatars taller. Also, some questions about images in your sig. Let's just get this over with since a few people think my avatar keeps getting bigger and bigger.

That's the size for your main avatar - it's been that size for about 6-8 months or so. I think it was 120x120 before. Anyway, it can be smaller than 140x140, or even oddly shaped, you could make it 30x140. Doesn't matter to me. But 140x140 is the max dimension. It's a good size and I don't particularly want to change it nor do I see a need to change it. That's already bigger than most places allow.

That is the new size for a sig image. I suppose, after years of hating that shit, that it's time to just give up and let people have images in their sigs. So I took a look around the net at what consitutes way too huge. Anything x 100 was way too big. 500 x Anything was way too big. Now, as for allowing sig images. Let's get the important rule of 'good taste' defined. Good taste is defined by however mods feel on a particular day. Anything gaming/movie related is probably, for the most part, fine. Anything trimmed in politics is probably not so fine. Anything gross is not fine. So yea, just keep it worksafe and not ugly. If everyone starts doing it and it turns out to be one big clusterfuck, I'll just go ahead and make that stop.

A note: If you don't want to see images in sigs or other people's avatars, you can turm them off. It is located here: Profile -> Look and Layout Preferences -> Don't show other users' avatars.|Don't show other users' signatures. It is a toggle.
One last thing, I don't think I even need to say this (I hope I don't need to say this) - Sig images are not for advertising.

Edit: Ack, one MORE thing - You have to hotlink to your sig. While you'll see mod/admin sigs hosted on f13, you're going to have to host yours elsewhere. I know a lot of you have your own domain names, but I wouldn't suggest making your sig 500k. So let's set a limit, Sigs can not be more than 150k in size[/i]. And if it's a broken image, the mods have permission to remove the sig altogether (if I'm around, I'll do it). Unless it's Signe's sig. She gets special rules that only apply to her.

I dislike sigs (and animated avatars for that matter but I have a way of disabling those) so thanks for letting us turn them on and off.

Wouldn't turning off signatures also turn off the text quotes? I like those, but sig pics are the devil's PR. Cowbell, lens flare, etc.

Of course I like you.  I just think your taste in avatars is dire... but that doesn't mean I hate you.  Anyway,  don't be daft.  If you get some horrible obnoxious sig, everyone else will hate you and I'll never see it.  It will thwart your nefarious plan as I will be blissfully unaware of it and still accidentally liking you.

I like that there are no sig images here, they bother me too.  Wolf's image took 45 seconds to load, bad omen.  So long as I can turn them off I don't care though, let the sig lovers have their fun.  Unless the option is "Turn off sigs" instead of "Turn off sig Images", I do want to see the text sigs.

I dispise sig images.  I know my signal to noise ratio is fairly (ok extremely) low, but sigs really seem to drop the overall ratio somehow.

The only girls who have expressed an opinon in this thread are me and Furiously.  As you can see from her avatar, Furiously is a really ugly woman, but her opinion is valid none the less.

Some sig pics I don't mind, but when they are some 'artful' representation of someone's MMOG character, they make me want to kick the owner in the genitalia repeatedly. ESPECIALLY if it is a goddamned Night Elf.

There are places for sig images, and I personally will never care about this type of shit but I hate to see Schild bowing to some kind of pressure from the teeming masses who just must have a sig image.

Edit: I figure 90% of the people out there won't do anything with their sig btw. And that 10% that will are probably going to be in such bad taste that the board will still not have sig pics.

The main reason I gave in to sigs was because of Xfile, gamertags and the like. They're going to become more and more widespread across the internet, and while I think Xfire is a pile of stupid, a lot of people live by it. And who knows, maybe the 360 will get good enough that people want to slap their gamertag in their sig. So I guess, the best solution would have been to just limit people's options for what they could have instead of being nice and making guidelines.
