My trusty old NEC monitor just crapped out on me finally, so I'm in the market for a new 19". Definitely want to stay with CRT for now, as I'm not impressed by what I've seen in the LCD arena.
I've been considering the ViewSonic g90fb, in the $230 range, anyone have experience with this one? I'm definitely looking for something I can use for as long as possible, and this is probably a good time to snatch up a CRT monitor anyways.
Any other suggestions welcome, and please don't think the $230 is any kind of limit, I'm more than willing to pay more for a quality monitor that I can expect some years from.
My entire system was just recently upgraded, so I definitely think I can push the 1920x1440 resolution without a problem if I choose to.
Thanks

I believe my home monitor is a G90fB but it could be one of the previous modles. Either way, I really like it. My work monitor is a G810 and it works great too. High resolution + High refresh rate ftw!

My rule of thumb for CRTs has always been 'if it says Mitsubishi on the packet, it's probably good enough'.

Sadly Sony no longer makes computer CRTs so I can't recommend anything specific except to say get something with a flat screen and a Trinitron/Diamondtron/<blah>tron tube (Sony's patent on the Trinitron tube design expired a while back) -- your games will thank you for it.

A couple years ago when I was building my PC, someone here reccommended the ViewSonic A90f+, so that's what I went with. Haven't had any regrets or problems with it. Whether or not it's even available anymore, I have no idea. I'm guessing no. So what was the point of me even posting this? Excellent query...

I used an A90f+ for 3-4 years. It wasn't until recently, that I got tired of a hulking monitor that I switched to LCDs.

I have owned both a ViewSonic CRT and a ViewSonic flat panel. Highly recommended.

I Viewsonic because they really never break I had one for 5 years with no problems then in its 6th year it started to take some time to settle itself during startup. So I ordered a new one on the cheap (exact same model) then my old one hearing it would be replaced started working like a champ again. I replaced it anyways, just to be safe. So now I have two of the exact same monitor. But I use 15" because I'm used to my screen being that size and unreasonably refuse to change.

Been using a Samsung SyncMaster 957mb for a while now that I am quite happy with. Think it's still a bit pricier then the Viewsonic but I am too lazy to look it up.

I've used a Sony 19" CPD G420 (CRT) for the last five years. It's such a good piece of hardware: VGA and component video inputs (can be used for input from two PCs, with a button on the front to flick between them), a built-in four-port USB hub, and the mark of a good monitor: a meaty degauss coil :) That said, my next monitor will be an LCD. I think I'm happy with where LCDs are now. The only trouble with Trinitrons was always the two "damper wires" that are very visible across the screen as black lines when you're displaying a light-coloured background. They used to really bother me, but I guess I just got used to it.

Mine has picked up a hardware glitch along the way, though, and now is displaying faint blue and red "scan lines" diagonally across the screen. Fortunately I have a spare waiting in the wings but when that one eventually dies I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Hopefully LCDs will have improved enough by then that they'll be close enough to CRT performance. Right now you have to compromise -- either get good color reproduction or fast refresh rates but not both at the same time. The vertical viewing angle issues on LCDs bother me as well.

I just noticed Hoax said he had a 15 inch monitor...I assume you run at 1024x768? Jesus. I guess that's one way of saving money on graphics cards. 3 year old cards can run HL2 at max settings at the resolution.
