we're back, baby

So i've been posting/lurking on LtM, WTo, here, corp etc. for a long time. My primary gaming interests have always been in MMOG (RPG's primarily), FPS's, Strategy games which i play on PC's, and racing and sports games which i play on consoles. Guitar hero and some karaoke on the PS2 for parties are also in there.

Point being in 20 years of wargaming, flight sims, mmorpgs, fps, RTS and racing and sports games i have never owned a figher/beat-em up game. Until yesterday when a buddy at work gave me a copy of Dead or Alive 4 for the Xbox 360 - he had 2 copies.

So tonite while i run courier missions in EVE i decided to pop DOA4 in and check it out. It's um, fun. I suck at it, big time. But it's fun! Now take all this with a grain of salt the size of michigan because i know JACK SHIT about these kind of games so i won't try to pass an educated opinion on whether this is a 'good' fighting game or not. But i will say it's pretty accessible - a total newb like me can jump in on average difficulty and get somewhere. Graphically the thing is STUPIDLY STUNNING. I know the big thing with DOA series is the boobies and yes they are exceedingly apparent but honestly the environments and backgrounds are stunning. In comparison to my normal gaming experience there's like 0 depth, no character development, very little 'depth' which i usually am a stickler for, but i have to say - as a way to pass time while jumping 7 systems in EVE - DOA4 fucking rocks. Now the next question is what does that say about EVE heh? (Not really - i choose to do 14 system trade runs - and i like EVE a lot.)

Anyway, if you happen to have a 360 and like fighting games check it out - im a noob but im enjoying it!

EDIT: Oh and yes, i have a high def tv, a 7.1 surround system and the xbox is doing 720p out. that may have something to do with it...

Yes, it is fun. And accessible. And boobies.

Good to know. I'll be sure to pick this up once the 360's price has dropped to under $200 and I can find DOA4 used at EBgames for under $20.

Aw who the fuck am I kidding, I still won't pick it up.

But, but, but...the BOOBIES! I will be posting pics of this once i get my camera and laptop back from my office. The environments are amazing - and maybe it's due to my first exposure to DOA series but the jiggle meter boobies are pure comedy gold.

I knew I forgot one. Though I was impressed with myself for remembering the Kokoro and Lisa (I can't even recall her name in DOA4, I only know her DOAX name).

Apparently she's been renamed (i have no knowledge of prior versions) but when you unlock her final costume her name changes back to Lisa - she's undercover as a wrestler in DAO4 to unseat the DAOTEC council or something...

Yeah totally agree - DOAx2 apparently will sell well but man i'd love a Ninja Gaiden Hidef game. Fucking 360 needs some titles STAT! I've already taken england to the world cup and had the canucks win the stanley cup. Luckily KOTOR2 has been patched and now works and i never played it so...but bring on the games folks!

I still didn't get the part about the ewoks and Jar Jar taking over the deathstar at the ending. Then having Han Solo and Luke come blow it up while you were escaping and having Lando hand you a colt 45... It was so strange.

Of course I could have just thought up a better ending then what they really did.
