My question is who are NHN and why are they "one of the biggest Korean MMO developers and publishers"? What did they make? The ammount of Korean MMO Developers I haven't heard of is staggering :P

As a matter of fact I swallowed one of these about two hours ago and the explanation is that it is, in fact, my hand.

The best part of SWG was the easy account cancellation process.

On a similar topic... I know I've heard of Codemasters... but the idea that they would have an 'ever-growing stable of MMOs', and I can't name a single one, makes me a bit suspicious.

Also... Didn't we determine in previous experiments(SB) that letting people rule the world mostly made other people quit the game?  Admittedly, Korean gamers are more hard-core than us pansy americans... but how well would such a thing do here?  It might be interesting to see if not being buggy as heck has an influence on that tendency.

Alkiera - They're releasing RF Online, and they'll handle the European DnD Online servers :)

So that's two :P

is there much doubt that this will be the uber catass heaven?

Nope!

For a minute this made me nervous, but then I remembered, "hey, mmog players don't generally go out of their way to affect the gaming experience of their fellow players in a negative way.  Why should they start with this game?"

this doesn't seem very innovative, from reading between the lines.  The carrot at the end of the pointy-grindy stick is supposedly 30 days of adminstration?  SWG Politician-wise?  I bet they are planning that the open PvP will keep players at each throats long enough that there will never be many single rulers.  However, someone will eventually clue-in and colloborate to take over and you will have an oligopoly of uber-guilds running everything and it won't be very open.  Same people (guild leaders) will rule as an alliance forever, just switch seats every month.  Should be called "UberLord"

Why do you people have to ruin everything by applying rationale, logic and observed patterns of human behavior to it!?  Can't you just nod and buy the game?  You make the poor marketers and developers with big ideas cry.

That situation would be performance art. It should go to vegas as Cirque Du Soleil: Catass.

Heh, but there was no administration with Politicians. There was SimCity for a few deeds of new buildings, but otherwise it was just sit back and wait for the votes to autorefresh because most your city was never around enough to care who ran it anyway.

At least as an ArchLord you get to, err, ah shit I don't know. This sounds like DAoC for Korea. I doubt Dragon Empires would have been any better for Codemasters, but they're off to a rather lackluster start after beginning to "focus" anew on a genre they dumped when dumping DE.

Wow, another Korean Griding Mill.

I take that back.  Its nice for the developers to at least come out and admit, "This game is for catasses.  The King of Catasses gets to run the world."

I can't wait to greet him by going, "Hail Catass!"

Frankly, I think that this may be the _dumbest_ idea for a MMO ever, even beating out that MMO that was based on sex.  Its one thing to get the community involved: but the only thing this will do is appoint the biggest exploiter as that community.

We now return to your regularly scheduled foolishness, already in progress.

Isn't it really just WoW's PvP system adapted to an entire game, though?

Not that that really refutes your point.

I would suspect that becoming ArchLord requires more than just being the uber-catass -- you'll probably have to gain the support of enough other players as well, sort of like how Survivor works. In other words I would imagine you'll need to have some social skills and do a lot of social engineering as well as grinding until your eyeballs bleed.

My original thought was whether we could skip the whole asian MMORPG thing and go straight to
the anime style babes with clothing issues. It seems like a lot of developer dollars are being wasted
which could more productively be directed to a variety of jump emotes and a breast-centric physics
engine.

However I think I've come up with the secret formula that will guarantee me domination of the asian
market. Each month the biggest virtual PvP catass effectively "kidnaps" the entire princess panty
population for his castle. Can the mangina of the month flirt, cyber and manipulate "her" way to the
top of the pile, will "she" be gifted to a loyal follower or will she be exiled to the torture rooms and
display cages of bouncy B&D?

.... I should probably delete that, it's evil enough I can almost imagine one of the asian producers
doing it.

Is a man not entitled to the hurf of his durf?

Codemasters launched the site of the game.

There also is a CG Movie available for download. It's not that bad, but the game will still suck :P

ArchLord is just a clone of Lineage 2. There may be some gameplay differences, but look at the graphics. I swear a bunch of Korean MMOG developers all licensed the Unreal Engine to use at around the same time and just spewed out a bunch of titles with it.
