The World's Worst Game: Curry or Covid

on: January 14, 2006, 09:41:20 AM

Recently came into a job where I basically can do whatever I want for about 7 hours at a time. So far, I have chosen to mostly spend the downtime playing Xbox.

Unfortunately, my library is rather limited - there is not one game I currently own for the platform which I would bother to bring in to play for any amount of time. So, I have turned to renting.

So far, I've checked out Gun (which is very good) and Burnout Revenge (which is extremely lackluster) from Blockbuster. This has caused me to realize how much (my particular) Blockbuster sucks, and that I need to open a GameFly account.

Basically, looking for suggestions on games that will eat up boatloads of time, and do not suck.

Prince of Persia #1 and #3, Burnout 3 (I didn't like Revenge), if you've got sitdown time KOTOR 1/2 or Jade Empire, maybe the Xbox version of Thief 3, Castlevania: Curse of Darkness...

Definitely Jade Empire. I'm 20 hours into it and not sure when the end is in sight. Need for Speed Underground (the first one) is good. I like Fable and the Lost Chapters are out for the X-Box I think. Obscure is a decent 5-10 hours. Destroy all Humans is silly fun.

I like both Project Gotham Racing games, thats what I mostly play and it'll take forever to unlock all the cars and tracks. Pirates! is good, but gets repetitous after awhile.

Sorry I should have specified that I had already slaughtered KotOR 1/2, Jade Empire, both PGR Games, Prince of Persia 1, Fable.

What job?

Security at some kind of medical supply distribution complex ( I don't know exactly, I don't ever go inside.). So far they have me on midnight shift, so I'm alone and in the middle of nowhere...so I have a lot of time to burn through. I might try reading some books too, but that doesn't seem to pass the time nearly as quickly. I'll have to see what happens with GameFly.

Reading is better for your brain. I recommend anything by Alexander Dumas and also Stephen King for passing the time. Read Dickens if you need a nap.

Use your XBOX as a DVD player. Sign up for one of them online rental places that does both movies and games.

"A la Recherche du Temps Perdu" by Proust would be more appropriate in this case.

Have you tried Crimson Skies? It's fun and somewhat long. It should last you 3-4 shifts :)

Ok, its maybe one of 3 or 4 turn based games on the X Box entirely...
But its good.  And so is Gladius.

I'll second Gladius. Soul Calibur 2 is a good game, X-Men Legends as well.

I'll have to get GameFly or something soon. In the meantime, I got GTA:SA.

EDIT: Holy shite, San Andreas is damn good. I take back any trash I may have thrown at the title in the past. I think I might have to actually buy this one.

I've actually been keeping up my New Year's plan, and have been working out everyday by riding the exercise bike for about 30 to 60 mins.  During that time I have finished KOTOR 2.  Have allready finished KOTOR, and was looking for a good game to play while riding the bike.  Turn based games would be better in that I can focus easier and keep my mind on my pace and play the game.

In that case, is Resident Evil 4 available for X-box ?  That would solve both the time and not-sleeping problems right away.

Unfortunately, no. Only for the Gamecube and Playstation 2. Though it really is worth buying a GC seeing as how you can get one for a pack of Necco wafers nowadays.

I don't remember. I do know I gave R* shit for things they did IN GTA:SA. I also played Vice City a bit, but wasn't taken with the game.

I enjoyed Vice City for the nostalgia factor of the soundtrack; it was also really good gaming.  I enjoyed San Andreas because it is a fucking awesome game, not really because I get all misty-eyed listening to Death Row.  Also: David Cross.

I bought Gothic II before Gothic II Gold was announced.  I still have not finished Gothic.  Looks like ass, plays like schnapps.

In other news, my wife called me to say that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night arrived today, the re-release version as per the picture.  I am holding back my enthusiasm until I actually boot the disc.

It's european, not asian. My call: you'll dislike it. I've gotten up to just becoming a fire mage but got distracted by EQ2. Only did the tutorial for Silent Storm, looks cool, though (wish it ran better in widescreen).

GTA:SA is a great game. Gotta get RE4 for my cube still.

For the record, SA has a full spectrum of music, contemporary and classic.

The metal station on Vice City was so much better. I mostly listened to The Dust in San Andreas.

I was somewhat disappointed with the non-gansta tracks on San Andreas.  Glad a musician somewhat backs up my ill-informed opinion.
