Press ReleaseInfinium to Launch Phantom Lapboard SEATTLE, Washington, Dec. 28, 2005 -- CEO and President of Infinium Labs Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: IFLB) Greg Koler has announced Infinium Labs will be launching the Phantom Lapboard in Q-2 of 2006. The Lapboard is a bespoke wireless keyboard and mouse designed specifically for PC Gamers. Amongst the features it boasts are a 360-degree rotating keyboard for either left or right-handed players, under the keyboard is the lapboard for the mouse that allows gamers to play from their armchairs - within a 30 foot radius of their PC. This layout allows users to keep both hands closer together when using the mouse and keyboard. Optimised for gaming and media access the Lapboard has full size keys, extended space bar and an inverted 'T' for both left and right-handed players to navigate through games. The Lapboard will have U.S. and international compliance for distribution in Europe and Asia. "Where consoles have always scored over the PC games has been in the physical interface the user has with the game. Our Lapboard changes all that. PC Gamers can get a premium peripheral that enhances the gaming experience considerably. It's also the perfect stepping stone and bridges the subsequent launch of the full service further down the line. The required $ USD 2 million round of funding for the Phantom Lapboard is a necessary step to deliver our vision for our products and services quickly into the market, positioned for both consumer and OEM segments, and book revenues by June 2006," said Greg Koler. Whilst final pricing has yet to be set for the Phantom Lapboard, Infinium Labs will launch the product through direct over the internet strategic e-commerce sites with viral marketing, advertising campaigns and trade events to support the new Lapboard. About Infinium Labs Infinium Labs (OTC Bulletin Board: IFLB) is in development of The Phantom Game Service, anticipated to be the first end-to-end, on-demand game service for delivery to the living room. Delivered over broadband, the Phantom Game Service is designed to offer casual and avid gamers a broad library of titles, available anytime, day or night. The reaction of every single person who has seen the Phantom demo, myself included, has been "screw the Phantom, I just want that keyboard." I guess Infinium got wind of that.

It's taking them another $2m, on top of everything they've already burned, to make a conjoined, wireless keyboard/mouse with a funny-shaped base?
And I thought defense contractors were wasteful...

I saw the Phantom 2 years ago at E3 and I'll second the notion: Fuck the system, but the keyboard is so damn nice. It does feel good while being used.

I wonder where I'll be able to buy it. Here's a big screenshot for those of you that don't know what you're missing:

I'm part of the target market. I think it's stupid. The mouse under the keyboard which is on a funny angle? Puhlease. It's also a wired mouse meaning I can't just use it for playing Eve. And the keyboard doesn't have media keys.

Good. Though I wish it had a set of number keys. And I wish it worked with the X-Box, since that's what I'd really like to play on my couch with a keyboard and mouse. But then that'd be competing with their competition.
Yeah, I know, I had to laugh at that statement too.

i think the mouse (though wired) plugs into the Keyboard, which then wirelessly connects to your PC. Could be wrong tho.
I would still rather have a Logitech DiNovo set tho.

That's the original board. From what I can tell the article says they're putting more money into developing it for the PC. I'm pretty sure they'd add more buttons. And the angle/mouse being under doesn't feel awkward. You have to actually play with it to see what I mean. At first everyone was skeptical about the mouse/keyboard, but once we got to sit down with it you wanted to walk away with it. Most of the questions asked to the Phantom reps was whether or not we could buy the keyboard/mouse.

Now that I think about it, that might be very comfortable - allows you to keep your hands inside shoulder-width, instead of spreading out on a "regular" KB/Mouse setup.

I recall the guy saying something about it being egonomic and it fits the way you should have your hands/arms when using such a setup. if this is going to come out within the next couple months I'll just hold out on buying a new keyboard/mouse until then. I don't need a fancy DiNovo setup and I like to kick my legs up when I play games, having to lean a bit forward to get to my keyboard/mouse hinders this.

No idea when it's coming out. Maybe they'll have it out or at least the final design on hand at E3. If they'll be at E3. If they're allowed in to E3.

No. We saw it coming, so should they. Fuck 'em! And I don't see any reason to pick this over any of the many Media Center keyboards out or on the way - only cool feature is the intewgrated mousemat.

The integrated mousemat is pretty much the whole point. The idea is to be able to play PC games on your couch, including the use of a mouse, without needing to Macgyver something out of a pillow, a book, and a piece of chewing gum.

So, six months after this is released (and does modestly well) another company (Logitech) releases a wireless usb keyboard/mouse holder that has the same form factor but lets you use any keyboard/mouse (clamps the keyboard in place) with molded plastic underneath that sits nicely on your lap.
Oh yeah, and it will have a drink holder as well.

Logitech will not release something that lets you use a keyboard or mouse that isn't a logitech keyboard or mouse. That's just not their style. Smart money points to Saitek releasing something like that. Or, ideally, Razer. One of those 2 companies had best get on the Sony PS3 bandwagon since it's supposed to let you use any usb keyboard/mouse with it (again, preferably Razer, their mouse is actually better than other mice for gaming while Saitek's keyboard is just shaped silly-like and not as good as a model M). Someone, ANYONE, needs to recreate the model M. Goddamn IBM. You'd think a designer at one of the keyboard manufacturers would say - "Man, those quiet key keyboards are assy, we need some buckling spring action." But noooooooooooooooo, they keep pumping out this shit that's slowly become laptop keyboards with big fat buttons. Fuck that noise.

Well, I admit Sky's influence rubbed off on me and I am now happily playing WoW from my couch on my 51" TV. (Though I don't know what I'm going to do about Civ 4 yet...) Would I be interested in an option for the wireless combo that works better from my lap? Sure. I'm not convinced that this it it though.
No keypad? - no good. Mouse in front of the kb? Even worse. Hopefully they spend the $2Million on improvements. For now I'll stick with the keyboard on the lap and the mouse on a book beside me.

The Copperhead is nice.
But the G5 and G7 are better - I use the G5 because of the nice colour.

I wanted to get a G5, but then I saw they removed one of the thumb buttons. I love having two buttons for my thumb. Dont think I could play with only one now. Hell, I wish they had 4.

The Razer Diamondback has 2 thumb buttons. And none of those annoying buttons below the scroll wheel.

I Razer, I have the green/black one with 2 thumb buttons and two pinky buttons although if there is a person who actually uses the pinky buttons I'd like to meet them, I mean two of them? There is no way my pinky can be trained to do anything other then wildly mash in the general area of the tiny buttons.

I pwn people just fine with a standard 2-button/scrollwheel optical mouse. I don't even know anyone with anything beyond this.
Extra buttons are simply not neccessary.

I use every button on my MX518. All 7 of them. It makes PVP in WoW much easer to handle with all the different skills to bind. I wish I had 3 or 4 more buttons on my mouse. 4 thumb buttons would be great.
