YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. MY DS PURCHASE IS FINALLY VALIDATED WITH A GAME THAT WILL TAKE MORE THAN 4 HOURS TO BEAT!

Seriously, I expect everyone with a DS to make me citizens. Woot.

Edit: Though, honestly, I have no clue how the net stuff works.

Whoever picks up this game over the next few days should post their IDs so we can visit towns and shit. I trust that all the targeted hate thrown at me for knocking Nintendowasn't hypocritical bullshit.

I will make it my mission to attempt all possible grief tactics in this game the moment I can.  I always felt Animal Crossing could use some PK.

The pictures don't do it justice. The whole thing is shiny lacquered metal. 500x better than the other Micros. This is how they all should have been.

Kk. Got through the lame ass intro I've played a thousand times. Here's the friends code for my city (cleverly named f13ville....yea yea, f13.netopia wouldn't fit).

Friends Code: 1160-2480-0763

Apparently people can live in other peoples towns. Or so the god-forsaken creatures of f13ville tell me.

I went to pick this up on my way home, but the reality that it's less that 3 weeks until Christmas set in, so I bought and played this last night instead.  angry

Oh well, the DS is really for when I'm stuck working boring weekends anyway. I'll have to settle on picking this one up within a few days. So is it basically AC for the Gamecube with mulitplay? Or have they added/changed anything?

Seems like the same thing with uh....more "stuff." Luckily I got bored with Animal Crossing for the GC, it always seemed like a portable game to me. So this works out well.

So, I own a DS and has never played any AC game.
Walk me through this: This is a game (using the term loosely) where you do Fed-Ex quests for some guy you owe money, fish, plant and harvest stuff... why?

Think Harvest Moon, there's no logical reason why the games should be so charming and fun. But they defy reason and really are.

All of the NPCs (which are your townsfolk and the folk of other towns) have funny little personalities, likes, dislikes and habits. "Return this rug to Kitty" isn't really that much different than "Go kill 20 giant spiders", except that instead of a ding you just get loot. And it's in realtime, so when it's your brithday (or some other holiday) you get presents!

If you do that too much then Resetti the Mole will erase your game. It's true!

Remember, time travel is serious business.  If you perform your calculations properly, Resetti will be none the wiser.

Finally getting time to sit down with this since I'm stuck working this weekend. Just like the GC version, it's addicting and I can't really explain why, I just know I have trouble putting it down. It seems they've improved quite a few things that were minor annoyances in the original (the GC version was the original I assume?). Like being able to mail all your mail at once, selling seems easier with the stylus, not having to mail your fossils and wait for them to be mailed back.... I've noticed more but those at at the top of my head.

So far it's pretty enjoyable. I've set up the online but yet to check it out, no wireless here and I don't have the adapter to plug in so at some point I'll need to stop playing other stuff at home long to give it a go.

I just got this for Christmas.  Anyone else playing?

I'm impressed, from what little I've played of it.

For those who have played it more, how does one go about getting friends?  Exchanging friend codes - well, I don't know anyone with it at the moment.

I was under the impression it would be more open than it is to use the WiFi connection to visit other towns.

I'm also wondering if there's any protection against griefers.

If you have a DS, can you go online with people via WiFi?

Yes.  It's restricted in that you have to know a friend code, name and town name, plus they have to be online?  Or something.

Yea, playing Animal Crossing online is a goddamn joke. The idea is good, the implementation is shit. Sony and Nintendo need to learn a little something something from Xbox Live. Nowish.

So, you do have to be online at the time in order to have your friends visit.  Which means, what, you have to make a date to play with people, or, go on a message board somewhere and respond to a post that says "SOME1 PLS VISIT ME!!!1"?

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Yes, that's the wrong way to do it.  I was all happy about the WiFi thing.

At least Mario Kart DS sort of works (but I don't play that game; my son enjoys it).

Anyway, here's my info on the off chance anyone plays when I do.

Name: Mel
Friend Code: 0430-1155-0239
Town: Zeebotown

I couldn't even get a friend code, because my DS isn't hooked up to teh wireless intarweb? Copper asked me if I wanted him to connect to blahblah and I had a question mark on my face (irl) so I said no.

I wanted to name my town "Funkytown" but I thought it would be too many letters. "Squaresville" is always too many letters.

And btw, schild, I thought the opening intro was cute, cuz I liked Kappi from the GC version (I ALWAAYS get the boat song stuck in my head). The windshield wipers and the way he keeps checking me in his rearview mirror is priceless.

Bah, blocked for my n00b status no doubt cry
Ahh well, the only time I actually sit down and play some AC is when I have no way to connect. The few times I bothered trying to connect at home I never found anyone else online, so either my friends got bored of it already, or just don't bother connecting like I do. Eventually, lil' Napkin will just die a lonely death, with a pocket full of rotten peaches, in his aptly named town of 6ftUnder.

Has anyone tried that Tag Mode (or whatever it's called)? The only time I gave it a shot it said that I needed a message bottle. I bought one but haven't tried it again since, so I'm still not clear what that mode is all about.

I am not sure what Tag Mode does exactly, but I do know that it's DS to DS, not over WiFi.

Hmm... I think it asked which way I wanted to connect... maybe not, I'm easily confused and could be thinking of something else entirely. I'll check it out again when I get the chance.

My boss and I were playing Untold Legends on PSP multi at the store cause it's so damned dead these days. It got us both thinking about buying a DS. Yeah, weird, I know. We just couldn't justify the PSP for a good selection of multiplayer games, but we've been hearing nothing but good things about Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. Is it worth it to pick up a DS for these two?
