Police: Teen Climbs In Girl's Bed, Forces Pill In Mouth

POSTED: 10:18 pm EST December 17, 2005
UPDATED: 10:37 am EST December 19, 2005

A 19-year-old in Central Florida is accused of breaking into a 9-year-old girl's bedroom, getting into bed with her and then trying to force a pill down her throat, according to a police report.

Joshua Hawkes, 19.

Lake County sheriff's deputies responded to a home in Eustis, Fla., at about 4:35 a.m. Saturday after a woman noticed a man on her daughter's bedroom camera monitor. She said she heard her daughter crying on the monitor.

When sheriff's deputies arrived, the girl told them the intruder climbed into her bed wearing only underwear and held her down with his legs.

She said he then tried to get her to ingest a pill, according to the police report.

Lake County officers determined that the person in the bedroom was likely Joshua Hawkes, 19, and traveled to his home.

A deputy entered Hawkes home in Eustis and tried to get him to leave his bedroom.

When the 19-year-old refused to leave his bed, he was shocked with a Taser gun and taken into custody.

As Hawkes was being transported to the alleged victim's house for a positive ID, he escaped from a police cruiser.

Hawkes was shocked with a Taser gun again near some woods and taken into custody.

After an investigation, it was determined that Hawkes put some sort of antibiotic pill in the 9-year-old girl's mouth.

Hawkes was transported to the Lake County Jail.

He faces several charges, including lewd and lascivious actions against a child under 14 years old, burglary and resisting arrest.

Yeah, first thing - 9 years old and has a cam?  I know people have done that with their infants, but at 9?

Second thing - if I had caught him, he'd be dead.  Skip-the-cops-and-go-straight-to-a-coroner dead.  "Anger issues" wouldn't begin to cover it.

Unfortunately, it's not funny because I think it's true.

Frankly I don't know which is more disturbing this guys action or the thought that we have come to a day and age where people are putting cameras into their kids rooms to watch them. Man if you think your kids are up to something go in their room and find out.

I don't think the camera was there to see what the kid was doing, but what might be being done to the kid.

I want to know how the already tazed guy managed to ESCAPE from a police cruiser.

I was under the impression that once closed in the back of those things, the door only opens from the outside.

They really wanted an excuse to Taze him again?  I would.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

They have a catch and release program in Florida. It lets more officers have a shot at the criminals before they get big enough to mount on the wall.
