Warning, Game Spy drivel ahead:

This is the nomination list for Game Spy's Gamer's Choice Awards in the category of PC RPG/MMoRPG game of the year:

City of Villains
Dungeon Siege II
Fable: The Lost Chapters
Fate
Guild Wars
The Matrix Online
X-Men Legends II
EverQuest II: Desert of Flames **
SW Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees **

Was it really that fucking bad a year for PC RPGs? Fuck.

A top anything list that isn't satire that involves a SWG & EQ2 xpack?  Not to mention MxO.  Wonder how much Sony paid for that, also I wonder if those game's are already mentioning their award status on the mainsites.

It's been a supershitty year for RPGs yeah. Why do you think we RPG nuts are all so hyped for Oblivion even though Morrowind burned the most of us?

Oblivion looks pretty, but I don't expect anything from it beyond what Morrowind delivered, I'm sorry to say.

Then again, I haven't enjoyed any of the ES games.. so I'm not the best judge.

What's really funny is that they left KotoR 2 off the list, but put it on the list for game of the year. The lists were so bad that one of the only categories I even voted for was best strategy/simulation - Sims 2 Nightlife. Sad yes, but it was actually a damn good expansion. And anything else on the list that I had played was shit.

Yes, I am also one of those Oblivion fanbois. Mind you, I liked Morrowind a great deal once I replaced the shitty textures and faces.

See, we're talking about boring games and games that aren't out yet. Let's talk about Fate.

Dude, Sims 2 nightlife is not boring. This time they can like, go out at night or something!

Gamespot also has some random awards things up. They love Guild Wars. It's nominated in two different best graphics categories. Whatever. And Jade Empire is nominated for most dissapointing game, because it got an 8.4 vs. KOTOR's 8.8. Dumbasses. (My take here is that they wanted to give Jade Empire lower than 8.4 but didn't have the balls, so they are just pretending they never really liked it)

As far as that RPG list goes...yeah. They might as well list a random WoW patch, that has to be better than Rage of the Wookies. If you gave me that list in a vacuum I would think it was a list of RPGs that came out this year - not a list of the best RPGs, just a list.

I really don't understand the Jade Empire hate...I thought the game was terrific.

But note that I'm a diehard BioWare adherant.

Well, Gothic 2 Gold came out. Doesn't that renew the eligibility for nomination? That's a pretty good game (that I won't be able to play until Dec 25th, because it's priced nice for xmas). My favorite rpg. Kotor is probably second (not 2, haven't played it) but it was a little too linear for my taste.

Schild, talk more about Fate, since you seem to be the only one who's played it. Your console and asianish tastes make me wary.

I found some downloadable game named Fate.  Is this what he's talking about?  Why does schild know stuff no one else knows?  I need to know.

That's it, Signe. And why are you shouting JANGLE at me, anyway. Regardless, Fate is a really, really well done indy Diablo clone.

Well, you see... it's a long story... schild shouted at someone for having a picture in his sig and the bloke apologised and PopTart say, "You don't have to apologise!" and I made a big JINGLE to support her.  THEN... PopTart and Haemish has a domestic squabble and I think Haemish had her deported. I'm sure there will be custody issues regarding Snowbeast and the poor puppy will suffer for his parents hostilities. THEN... someone complained about my monstrous JINGLE so I changed it to JANGLE to accommodate their delicate sensibilities.  I don't want to offend, you know, but I have uncontrollable compulsions to break rules.   embarassed  And I was hoping to taunt schild with it but I'll tone it down.   smiley

Edit:  Ok, I got Fate and it's adorable and my character is ever so cute.  Thanks!

The Poptart and I are just squabbling over the existence or lack thereof of cookies in the house. I'm sure Snowbeast wants a cookie. And a cow leg to chew on. She's a chewer.

As for that list, it's shit to print. Fable is probably the best thing on there, but I can't speak of Fate because I don't like Diablo anyway. I'll have to look at their other lists. I'm sure it will evoke rage in me.

It's much more adorable than Diablo, but it is that sort of get a quest, go in the dungeon and find shit, finish quest, rince, repeat.  I don't mind... it's bright and cheery.

I'm in the "I hate Jade Empire" camp. I put about 5 hours into it and that was it. I'm not really sure what it was, exactly. I think it was a combination of the awful voice acting, the pathetic models, and the super simple fighting. Linear cliche RPGs just can't hold my attention any more.

Best RPG of 2005 is Planescape: Torment. If you replayed it this year instead of buying new titles, you didn't miss anything.

If you've ever found yourself thinking "hrm, if this game took out all the gothic horror and replaced it with anime kittens it'd be much better" while playing Diablo, Fate is your game.

That said, it's easily one of the top three on the list.  I'd probably vote for GW over it I guess.  But, yeah this was a shitty-as-hell year.

People might start expecting something from a blue-name.  Remember kids: I bring nothing to the table.

I guess now I need to write up a new review on something.  I recently had an adventure removing Command Service from my rig, that was like a game.  I think I am the only one on the board that likes Dungeon Siege II, maybe that's an option since no one will check me for accuracy.  Or I could write that review of HL2 I have been kicking around in my head that basically goes like: "Huhuhuh, I killed him with a tire, LOLZRZ!!!1".

I have den privleges, that's all.  I'm not in your sooper sekret writer's club, am I?  I bet you say horrible things about the rest of us in there, too!  I only get den privleges, I think, because most of my stuff either ends up there or belongs there.  That, and the day I invited everyone over for blow jobs.

And I vote for a HL2 review.  With pictures.
