Having lived in San Francisco my whole life I'm going to pretend to be an expert here and say:

Stray you are stereotyping.

Yes, the vast majority of "dykes" are true chick-sex only lesbians.

Yes, there is a stereotype based on some truth with regards to lipstick lesbos.  Yes, many hawt (read:feminine) looking "lesbians" may in fact just be drunk straight girls or bi.

But that does not a no exceptions rule make, its a freaking trend.  I have no idea if the avg. lesbian will get less or more attractive to hetero males.  But I know there are attractive girl-sex only lesbians.  Your comming across as very self-centered (if she looks attractive to men she must deep down want penis!) with your current line of thinking to be honest.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

Thanks for speaking up, man. I'll concede to what you're saying. Yes, I'm probably stereotyping a bit (I'm no expert on gay and lesbian studies, I admit that fully), but that's only to enforce the point even more dramatically against the stereotype of pr0n-dykes and/or lipstick lesbians. Men want it to be true (ahem...including myself), and that's the big reason why it gets much attention or representation.

Quote from: Reuters
But the National Center for Lesbian Rights and the Brooke Oliver Law Group said the word "dyke" is no longer viewed as derogatory.

"Within the lesbian community that term has been reclaimed as a very positive term that denotes strength and pride and empowerment," said Shannon Minter, a lawyer for the National Center for Lesbian Rights.

So is "dyke" going to be the new "nigger/nigga"? That is, it's only seen as non-derogatory if you are part of that community. Just curious, even though I try to never use either of those words. Too much negativity associated with those words to make me feel comfortable using them.

For some reason, I don't think "honky cracker" is ever going to be empowering...

I have a friend who's a lesbian (she recently married her girlfriend so I'm pretty sure she's not just dabbling), wears makeup, and has a lot of hot pink in her wardrobe.  She once told me that when she first came out she sported the lumberjack look for a while because "that's how lesbians dress," according to most of the other lesbians she knew then.  Then she realized that peer pressure sucks and she started dressing how she wanted to.

Stereotyping in any direction is bad IMO.  Bad enough when straights do it, but I find it kinda depressing that there's a peer pressure element involved as well.

I have no Christmas spirit.  The last two years, Righ and I blew everyone off and hung out at home.  I don't buy a tree and I don't own one xmas ornament.  I do buy a present for my dad, who is old and unwell, and Righ sends books to his family.  If they didn't buy presents, we wouldn't either... we'd prefer that.  I don't watch xmas shows on tv, unless they have Tim the Tool Man Taylor in them or happens to be A Christmas Story, which I love.  The rest are shite.  I buy xmas candles and incense because I like the smell... cinnamon, pine, bayberry.

Christmas used to be ok when there were small children in our family.  There isn't anymore.  I only spread this Christmas crap on f13 because it amuses me.  You should join me, and decorate your Zod.  Give him a big Spliff from Santa, too.  And you're right... Christmas DOES suck.  Doesn't mean we can't put Santa hats on everything!

I'll be going overboard with smilies for awhile, too.    So there.

I never do the tree and all that. My mom stopped putting one up when I was a teenager, 'cuz it turned out she'd always thought it a royal pain in the ass and only did it for teh childrens. I prolly won't have one again 'til I have babies. I do love making gifts though. This year I made huge batches of my delicious home-made soap and a bunch of chocolate truffles. The truffles aren't too sweet, and the soap only burns a little!

I'd be lying if I said I didn't get a little squee when I see all the shiny packages sitting around the house. This is the one time of year when I can blow all my cash shopping for stuff I don't need, 'cuz it's for Sauced.

Merry Christmas though.

I could just watch that little doggie spin around all day, but I have to run out and buy a new DVD player.  For some reason our old one will only play Righ's music videos and none of the movies I want to watch.  I'm SURE he had nothing to do with it... it's just a very strange coincidence.  Right?

Please don't value my opinions!  I usually just steal them from other people... mostly the ones who can spell and know some long words!  But... I  Heart you, too, you little christmas weasel, you.

Cheers to Rasix for joining in this festering season!  Yay!

I hate Christmas. It's just commercialized bullshit through and through. The worst is walking through the mall everyday listening to awful Christmas muzak. Bah humbug I say - BAH HUMBUG!

As far as dykes go, yeah, a lot of lesbians are ugly man-looking fuckers. Not all of course. This girl I used to date became a lesbian, first thing she did was put on 20 pounds and shave her head.

It is kind of strange when you think about it. I totally understand women going for lipstick lesbians - hot girls are hot. Women going for lumberjack women? That's just odd. I think a lot of those women have problems with men in their past so they go for man-lite. (tm)

A friend of mine had a GF that was pretty cute, then she turned lesbo and started dating some smelly ugly hippie who never showered or shaved. Her new girl was more manly than her old, male boyfriend. Odd but whatever floats your boat I guess.

I think the point they're trying to make is that they no longer have to conform to the man pleasing social vision of themselves.

I have no idea why they think like that tho, since I've known many lesbians who aren't making a 'statement' about anything but are, well, just gay...

Which reminds me :  How many feminists does it take to change a lightbulb ?

None.  Feminists can't change anything.
