Ever since, every year, I hear about fatalities caused by... well... I guess it would be careless turkey frying or something.

Probably house fires started by the fryer.  (We run ours outside on the patio for a reason.)

I've never seen a twinkie in Glasgow... maybe I just never noticed.   But yes, if they have them, it's likely they would deep fry them.  They do, however, deep fry Mars bars (Milky Way in Britain).

Yeah, I saw someone on the Food Network enjoying one of those ( I think it was Anthony Bourdain). It sounds like a fantastic idea.

Well, if you and the wife ever come down for that Winterhawks game like you said, we can take a stroll down to our friendly neighborhood English pub for a round of Newcastle and some Scotch eggs. God that place (the Horsebrass) is so perfect this time of year. We never go when it's nice out 'cuz it's so dark and smoky in there. But it's perfect for weathering those cold, rainy Portland nights.

The annual T-Birds fan train to Portland is scheduled for January 14th. We are seriously considering it...will holla when we get it figured out.

Is it Timberhawks? Are the Winterhawks some other sport? Those aren't even real species. I don't know anything about sports. Except that the Bears are kicking ass this year.

Hmm, well up here T-Birds means UBC Thunderbirds. Oh, and I love the Bears, but they aren't really kicking ass. More like they are barely grinding out 13 points a game, but thier defence is so awesome that its enough to win.

Deep fried turkey is the best way to have turkey imo. Dumbasses dying trying to do it makes it even better. Extreme cooking!

I was thinking of the Portland Timbers, which my Google-fu has revealed to be a soccer team.

In Glasgow they deep fry pizza to warm it up.  That is so disgusting.
Leave it up to a Scot to take a perfectly wonderful food and fry it. Don't they also do fried twinkies?

They certainly do fried bread.  It just never occured to me to immerse a slice of white bread in hot oil.  I ate everything on my plate except the fried bread.  I am only partly Scot, after all.

I am glad everyone had a good holiday, except for Ched for whom I am sorry had a bad holiday.  My DIY tip for today: aluminum foil makes a great conductor.  Worked when the fuse blew in my Commodore 16.

My holiday was a mixed bag but overall good.  Had dinner at my in-laws house, which is five minutes from my house.  The turkey was sliced when I got there, but I am sure it was not fried since it was pretty dry.  I don't like cranberry sauce.  Ate dressing, turkey, mashed potatoes and cake.  Normally I don't eat cake.  Several people were there, none of them related to me by blood... well, other than my son.  I managed to wiggle out of going away for the weekend since my mother-in-law was tired from making the food, although my wife gave me some guilt about a family tradition and how Sam was so important and why didn't I ever think of anything like that and something about how she has to do everything.  I felt bad until she went to bed, then I played games until 0300.

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

I'm running out of clever ways to use up the leftover turkey. It's almost a week old by now, too, but it still tastes and smells okay. I guess I'll just make some big batch of something and freeze it. To date I've made: turkey salad samriches (cranberries + mayo = luv), turkey and rice soup (for a hungover Sauced), green curry turkey soup, turkey chili, and turkey risotto. I now have leftovers of all of these things, which sorta defeats the purpose. I think I'll use the leftover risotto to make some arancini (which I think freeze well? SPT-experience with this? Oh, wait, do you hate risotto?). I had turkey chili chili dogs last night which didn't even put a dent in the leftover chili, and my intestines can't take any more beans. Sigh.

Ooh! Maybe turkey pho tonight. I love noodles.

Derail! The place where I take kickboxing and pilates just started up an Indo/Chinese weapons class that I'm gonna start going to. Yay!

That sounds like a winner. Add some Sriracha and hoisin to make it even yummier. I will be at your place about 9 pm for my sample!  :-D

Heh, you know it. I even put a spoonful of hoisin in my chili to cut the heat and add a little depth of flave. I like to call Sriracha "cock sauce". On account of the rooster on the bottle. Not for anything gross.

I think I will have to call it that from now on.

According to Alton Brown turkey can be safely stored, if well wrapped for up to six months, in the freezer. In an Arincini you can use leftover rice/risotto but it doesn't have to be risotto, it can be any kind of "rice". I don't know that turkey would be a tasty addition.. if I were you I'd make a small test batch before compromising the rest of your left over turkey.

Thanks. And since I do have some leftover risotto, I'll prolly just make little arancini-like cakes and freeze those (the turkey and zucchini in the risotto might make neat little balls difficult).
