Kermit and Miss Piggy in search for Muppet Idol

New Muppet show incoming, with the kickoff being a show called "America's Next Muppet", with a Muppet competition that will have viewers vote to select the new Muppet.

On the other hand, the Muppets have been bought by Disney.  I didn't love the Muppets because they were cheap puppets, and I'm not sure that they will be any more than that in Disney's hands.  Time will tell.

"Muppet Idol?"  embarassed So it's not going to use the variety show format then?

Shame.

The world needs more Muppets....But it also needs more variety shows (America does at least).

Wait, the Hensons sold the rights AGAIN?  Jebus, Jim's got to be spinning once more.. I suppose Disney is better than the German company that didn't do squat with them, though.

The format makes sense to me. The original came out in a time when Carol Burnett, & Saturday Night Live were the big shows.  Reality shows are the 'thing' these days, so following that format keeps it current.  Kermit isn't Kermit without Jim though. Rolf was the one they 'retired' though since he was technically the first and, if I remember right, Jim's favorite.

Is it sad that I'm looking forward to watching the muppet show again?  This time with my own kids?  ;)  I even bought all the DvDs of the Muppet show and my oldest daugher loves them.

From what I read they will be doing the 'Muppet Idol' thing then moving on and doing the variety show with the new muppet as a part of it.

A year or two ago the Henson kids sold the Muppet rights to Disney, with the stated goal of focusing on the rest of their intellectual properties.  Trying to manage the Muppets like Dad would have wanted was driving the kids up the wall, according to the news reports at the time.

I think the remaining Henson properties include the Labyrinth stuff, the Farscape series,  and the recent Mirrormask amongst others.

Dark Crystal 2 would be awesome.  It's still one of my favorites.

I really loved The Muppet Show and my kids do too, now that we can watch it on DVD. The second run (Muppets Tonight?) that was out was not as good, but it did have some fun (I really enjoyed the Elvises' moments in history). I will watch this next show, whatever it will become.

Dark Crystal 2 could be pretty damn cool I get worrisome that sequels to old flicks will come out like Neverending Story 2 rather than something as great as the original movie, however.  I really want "The Storyteller" on DVD to go along with my Muppets Show DVDs.

No, Sachant, it's not wrong to be excited about watching them with your own kids.  My daughter's favorite Muppets show is currently the Alice Cooper one.  I'm raising a metal slut and I should really be afraid of that.  Mine, on the other hand, is the Brooke Shields Alice in Wonderland, (Beware the Jabberwok, my son!)  followed by the Mark Hamill one. (Angus McGarnicle!)

My inner child's anal cavity is sore once again.

Their is a great deal right with being excited about watching the Muppets with your kids.

I have a great fondness for metal sluts.  When my life flashes before my eyes just before death, I hope the parts involving metal sluts will be prominently displayed.

And they say I wasted my time in college, hah!
