...is fucking killing me.

People with ATi cards (mostly the 9800 line, which a LOT of people have since it's still one of the best bang-for-the-buck cards out there) get complete hardlocks or VPU crashes in the Searing Gorge and I guess part of BWL. Why? Who knows. For me it started after the 1.7 patch.

I now can't log into my main since my last crash in the Searing Gorge has made it so the game instantly hardlocks on loading.

Are you using the ATI drivers or the Omega ones?

Whichever one you're using, try the other and see what happens.

Everyone should use Omega drivers.  For those of you too lazy to google here is the main page for them:

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.

Not always. Currently Omega is based on 5.9 whereas ATI is at 5.10.

I haven't had the hard lockups that most folks have, but I have been getting freezes that last up to a minute.  It's really damned aggrivating.  9800 pro here.  I might just swap my card back with the wife's FX card.  It's a lesser card and things don't look as nice but at least it doesn't freeze up during play.

I've used both the 5.10 drivers and both the Omega and non-Omega versions of the 5.9 drivers. No go.

No MMOG is worth 2 driver changes. I learned this with:

I have never had this happen myself but one of my guildmates HATES flying through there as as soon as he passes into searing gorge his video card resets itself. Nothing else just the video card and once that happens its all good until the next time he is silly enough to pass over that zone. Needless to say he takes the tram most times from ironforge to stormwind.

I had the same problem. Seems to be isolated around that spot where the glass spiders spawn, especially when you look towards the Gorge itself. Avoiding that area relieved all my problems.
