Well, I'm taking that challenge anyway.

Nope, it's Useless.

Bad things happen all over the world, all the time.  Toss this one in there - it's not any worse because it gets publicity, or gives someone more ammo to sue someone else or get off an arrest...

No, I'm not being a dick this time.  Honest.  Nor am I being nihilistic or anything.  Nor trying to tread on anyone else's feelings.  It's an awful story - God Awful.  But, hey, it's not news - Kids are Mean.  Really, really, really fucking mean.  We've known this since the dawn of time.  Lord of the Flies wasn't fiction.  This poor child had troubles and issues and could probably have done with society and parents and those in charge to pay greater care and attention.  But they were probably too busy because life is HARD.  So one poor wee lassie slipped through a net with tragic, tragic circumstances.  And it's awful.  And hopefully she's with angels in heaven and whatnot (if you believe that crap).

But it's still not more tragic and awful than things that happen around the world every 2 seconds with regularity.  It's life and it just keeps on going.

There isn't even any lesson to be learned here, though there is some primal and evil part of my brain that knows the thug in charge is gonna be scarred after trying to pull the girl down himself.  Good.

Again, sorry if anyone feels different or I've offended.  I honestly never mean to, even when I'm calling people tits.

Honestly, I have to agree with Ironwood.  Certainly it's tragic, but what is the redeeming value of this news?

What really made this story sad for me is that I could really relate to that poor kid. Except that I'm white and not a First-Nationer/Native American, which comes with its own hurdles. But since I didn't end it all when I was her age (although I definitely had her reasons), now I'm a more sensitive person, and a stronger one. And if I ever have kids they WILL have their asses beat within an inch of their lives if they ever bully someone. And they'll be encouraged to give a beatdown to anyone who tries to bully them. Adolescence is a tough game, especially at rougher schools. My middle school was rife with Latinas with gang boyfriends, and bitches would tuck razor blades in their hair in case a girl tried to pull it in a fight. The SE Asian girls weren't much nicer (the good ones were sweet as pie but the bad ones were a fucking nightmare).

Regardless, I agree that this isn't really more tragic than anything else that happens in the world. But I feel sorry for her family, who will spend the rest of their lives with the guilt.

Bad puppy syndrome eh.  Fine.  /rolls up newspaper

There's timing, taste... and then there is circumspection.  And then there is adolescent bullshit.  If you want to *think*, "gee 11 year old hangs herself But Look 20,000 dead In Pakistan" that is the time to *think* it, grit your jaw, and move on.  Quietly...

When you post that crap on a public forum you are rationalizing.  What I don't know.  And don't care.  And *definitely* don't think handwaving immediately followed by a personal story to inspire empathy is anything but bullshit.

But three times now I should have grit my jaw and moved on.  So fuck me too.  Time for me to contemplate why some faceless puke on the intertard having a slip-shoe moment bugs me.  Guess I have demons too.  And I guess I do care.

Oh wait...

It's a pretty day here.  Going outside to take the demon for a walk.

Edit: Sorry had a full head of steam already with an RL issue.  Sorry for dumping here on f13.

Someone else help me out here.  I don't get it.  I don't understand what you're saying Poco.  At all.  Or who it's aimed at.  At all.  Or why I need to give to the Republicans from my perch in the Highlands.  At all.

You've totally confused me.

And who told a personal story in this thread ?  I missed that one.

I'm really confused.

EDIT : Hell, never mind, I had my Voodoolily filter on.  I didn't see her post.

I give up.  I need coffee.  And a good game.  Where the hell are all the good games.

I generally echo Ironwood's feelings here. Not to be callous, it's a terrible fucking tragedy, but it doesn't shock me all that much. That fact alone is sad.

What really depressed me about that article though, is it conveyed to me that the parents were going to try to blame the whole thing on her dad being roughed up by the cops. Yes, seeing your father being arrested is traumatizing, but if it were suicide inducing we'd have 50 suicides a day here in the lower eastside.

This is a little girl that had a whole mess of issues in her life, and I'd rather see the parents taking some responsibility for the situation. Yes, I know they are greiving and all, and I'm sounding like a callous prick here, but in situations like this if you have to blame someone, I'm going to look at the parents first. Every child goes through shit, its up to the parents to provide the emotional support to get them through it.

I would really like to post a callous remark about Darwinism here, but it would not be appropiate I guess.  Having 2 daughters I could not imagine the horror of them ending their own life.  I would hope that as a parent they could turn to me in their time of need.

Actually being a dad is about the only thing I am good at besides MMORPG's.

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.

I was going to insert some profanity and such, complete with links and berating, but I have decided to assume you meant this to be green.

Additional.  Not funny Voodoo.

Aw, Geez, Ched. I meant "future stripper" in the "Fuck you, Dad!" kinda way not in the "your daughter will grow up to be hot and we will want to see her tits" kinda way. No sense of humor.

That puppy reminds me of my family's miniature schnauzer when it a puppy.  Cute little thing with needle sharp teeth and a penchance for mischief (aka peeing on or destroying anything it possibly could).

Yah, this thread is horrible.  People have made it this way. The puppy makes it better.

Nah, it really started horrible.

Which was my point.  You wouldn't come into a pub full of happy cheery friends and say 'HI GUYS MY MOM JUST DIED !! WHO WANTS A PINT !!!'*

It kinda kills the mood.

This thread did that in a virtual sphere.

*unless you all really hated that guys mom.
