From Best Week Ever blogs
Quote
At a recent Crash Test, Aziz Ansari challenged his roommate Zach to see who could come up with the sh* ttiest mixtape.

Each contestant was to choose five songs. Their other roommate, Merlin, would act as judge.

The loser would have to walk around the city blasting all ten songs from a boombox.

Aziz lost the contest.

I can't believe LFO made it on that tape.  Actually wait. Yes I can.

There is not a single Depeche Mode song worse than that shit.

Between the last 2 songs I was really hoping for Snap's "The Power" or something equally 90s horrible.

Depeche Mode got me laid. Therefore, it can't be as bad as the rest of that tape.

Though "Click,Click, Boom" was a bit surprising.

Anyone care to do a transcription of which songs were on the Tape? I don't have headphones with me here at work.

Maybe I missed the point, but I thought the whole game was to pick songs that did horrible as a mix tape, not horrible songs.  Personally I liked a few of the tunes.  Oh and Never, EVER talk bad about Depeche Mode.  Ever.

Hmm, it didn't actually show all the songs that were on the tape.  It said he had to walk around while playing all TEN songs.  I only heard 4 or 5.   Or did I read that wrong?

I would've included that Peter Cetera song from the Karate Kid, Mambo#5, a 311 song, some late Jethro Tull (I'm talking Broadsword and the Beast shit) and something from the Final Cut. Or maybe What's Going On from 4 Non Blondes. God, I could fill an 80 minute CD-R with my embarrassing knowledge of the craptastic.

Crap, I kind of like The Final Cut.  I guess I shouldn't have watched The Wall at 4 am trashed every weeked between the ages of 14 and 18, probably had a seriously negative influence on my musical tastes.

Not only do I like the Final Cut, I also liked the 4 Non-Blondes. Linda Perry is teh awesome, good songwriter, great singer.

I would agree about Peter Cetera, Mambo #5. 311 have some good tunes, but they are buried amongst that same pseudoreggae song that takes up most of every album. Haven't heard later Tull, really like early Tull, though.

I was digging through some of my early 80s black metal vinyl imports over the weekend, there's some stuff in there, I'd imagine.

I used to play a pub variation of this called "worst song on the jukebox". Knowledge of unusal singles really helps this game. I once won with an incredible B-side. It was the RCA rerecording of "Silver Machine" by Hawkwind, which has a remake of "Psychedelic Warlords (Disappear In Smoke)" on the B-side. Being a longer song, they made the B-side 33 RPM. It's a gloriously horrible sound at 45 RPM on the pub jukebox.

Peter Cetera is the shittiest member of Chicago. I like Chicago, however cornball they are. I just have a soft spot for a brass section, and Make Me Smile well, just does. Color My World still makes me all misty-eyed.

The Final Cut is every crappy cliche song from The Wall stretched out to make the worst album of all time. Frankly, anything after Dark Side of the Moon can suck my ass (including The Wall, no matter what impact it had on my 16-year-old drug-addled mind). Sid Barrett ftw. (I do like Wish You Were Here and Meddle okay, even though the ninja was in the loonie bin) And Gilmore was a hottie on the cover of UmmaGumma.

The best jukebox EVER was at a little dive bar in the Garden District in NO. $2 cocktails was a nice bonus, but I would've stayed just for the juke. I was having so much fun playing "impress the old black cats with my knowledge and appreciation of old-school funk" - they had a bunch of Meters and Eddie Bo and Dr. John on that shit (and Tenacious D - I mean when was the last time you saw the D on a jukebox?).

There is a pool hall near my house that has a digital jukebox with 35,000 or so songs on it.  I've yet to look for something on there and not find it.

I will also give some props to Final Cut.  I've never understood Barrett fanboiism.  Yeah, it's cool to go insane and all, but really.  The Gnome was fucking stupid.  Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, and Animals are classics in my book, and Meddle and The Wall have very strong moments.  Roger Waters died for my sins.

Back on topic, this is an amazing idea and I cannot believe that this wasn't an internet fad years ago.

Throw some Steely Dan on the worst mix for me please.

This post makes me want to squeeze into my badass red jeans.

Throw in the theme from Gilmore Girls (worst song evar) and some Color Me Badd.

This is a constant source of conversation between me and my wife now.

If there's no Air Supply songs (Making Love Out of Nothing At All is sufficiently horrible), then how bad can the mix tape be?
