It's that time of year again, boys and girls.

Let's get it started with ROUND 1:  The Division Series.

Pick your winners, and the # of games (best 3 out of 5):

AMERICAN LEAGUE:
NEW YORK YANKEES vs. LOS ANGELES ANGELS
BOSTON RED SOX vs. CHICAGO WHITE SOX

NATIONAL LEAGUE:
HOUSTON ASTROS VS. ATLANTA BRAVES
SAN DIEGO PADRES vs. ST. LOUIS CARDINALS

We'll do the same song and dance for the LCS, and the World Series.

I'm happy I'm so bad at picking baseball playoffs. I picked teams I didn't like but I thought would win anyhow.  I would have been 4-0 if I went on personal taste.

Sox in 6
Cards in 7

Again, happy if I'm totally wrong.

My brain told me that both the Red Sox and Yankees would lose, but I was hoping for another showdown so I took them. My picks:

Cards over Astros in 7.
White Sox vs. Angels in 7.

Here is a good question for all baseball fans: Is there a worse really good hitter in baseball than A-rod?  He's been doing this the entire time on the Yankees. Just tonight he left about 6 men on base.

It's funny to compare Jeter and A-rod. A-rod is clearly the better hitter overall, yet in the deciding game Jeter hits a solo shot then gets on to lead off the 9th - and A-rod promptly erases him with a double-play ball. A-rod is a great guy to have on your team when you are playing the Devil Rays in May. But in October he's just about the last guy you want to see up to bat.

Yes Kenrick, it was a hell of a game. I expected our bullpen to lose it for us, but never in such a fashion as giving up grand slams. And yet, it happened in the regular season. What do I know?

To give you an idea of what went on while I was watching this game, I was up at the lake this weekend. I was watching college football and enjoying a few drinks. We decided on Sunday to watch the beginning of the game before we left. Then, the Braves started winning. We figured, as all Braves fans do, ok lets ride this out to the bullpen and we'll go home. In the eighth inning, if I was older I'd have had a mild stroke. In the ninth inning, I was physically sick. I knew we were screwed going into extras. And then the miraculous happened. For about seven solid innings, our pitching stopped sucking. It just kept getting outs. Unfortunately we couldn't plate a run even if you put a naked supermodel on top of it and told them it was open season.

So we continue to watch. Time drags on. It's now 4:30, and we wanted to be back at 4. Innings roll on. It's in the 13th inning and coming up on 5:30 before we finally just say fuck it and get in the car with it on the radio. We drive ALL THE WAY back from lake, approximately 60 miles, and the game is still going. I have time to sit down and watch two more innings in my own house before the thing was over. I got to see Roger Clemens make his first, and sure to be only, relief appearance.

To be sure, I knew the Braves would lose it, but we can always say that we set a record doing it. Welcome to the history books boys, that's not the way I expected it.

EDIT: White Sox in 7
Cards in 5

How could you pick the Angels with their pitching issues? Colon injured and everyone worn out, seemed impossible for them to win. Although I am surprised at how quickly they rolled over, I figured it would go 6 or 7.

Cardinals- well all I can say is can we stop calling LaRussa a genius already? He isn't, by a longshot. I chose the Cards but I'm hoping the Stros take it.

Well that was just about the worst thing I've ever seen.  Can't wait in 10 years once that asshole is riddled with injuries like Big Mac and Barry, we'll all get to find out what type of 'roids he's on.

I missed making my picks for the second round. Oh well. I still wouldn't have given the Astros 6 games, and I wouldn't have thought the Angels would be out in 5. I am happy that the Sox got to the series, since that gives me hope for my Cubs. I'm pretty sure the Stros will blow it in 7 games and the Cards will get beaten in 5 games in the World Series.

I tried to watch most of the game, but did Bagwell get to hit at all in the game?

Nope... but they had the camera on him and Biggio for the last out (both were in the dugout).  Their reaction was like watching 1000000000 pounds lift off their shoulders.

Bagwell will most likely DH for the entire series vs. Chicago.  Lamb might a little bit, too.
