7 Games available at Launch and may I just say....WEAK. Despite the fact I want DOA4, Enchant Arm and of course Everyparty, which we - of course - won't fucking get: Ridge Racer 6 Frame City Killer Dead or Alive 4 Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (eM)-eNCHANT-arM Tetris: The Grandmaster Ace Everyparty
6 Addition games to come out in the weeks following through the end of 2005 (ending, well, December 25th. They may be insane, but they aren't stupid. Or are they?): Dynasty Warriors 5 Special - (Yay!) Need for Speed: Most Wanted Wrestle Kingdom Ninety-Nine Nights - (The Mizoguchi Game - more yay!) Project Gotham Racing 3 Far East of Eden: Ziria - (Ziria I do believe is robot combat. A surprisingly sparse showing for japanese robot titles considering this is the only one.)
The release date for America is November 22nd. Two days before Thanksgiving. Japan gets the real system for $50 cheaper (well, $53 cheaper), and they don't have an Xbox 3Shitty variant. No one over there would probably buy it anyway. Japan loves dems the good editions of shit.
So yea, there it is. We still don't know what games are actually due out on launch day here.
That is all.

Jesus- is there anything on the lauch list that is original? Everything looks like sequels other than Frame City Killer (I read it as Frame Rate Killer and had a chuckle) and Everyparty; those could also be sequels for all I know...never heard of them.

Can I say that I am thoroughly unimpressed by anything I've seen out of X-Box 360? I saw a boatload of screenshots from the TGS, and underwhelmed doesn't even begin to describe my /meh. The lauch list is shitty. The only screens I saw that I remotely thought were impressive were DOA4 (which I wouldn't buy anyway) and Resident Evil 5, which looked good, but not a generation ahead of the GC version of 4. Frame City Killer looks particularly angular and unimpressive.
You want me to pay $400 for this, becuase let's just call a spade a spade and say that no one in their right goddamn mind will buy the $300 edition. Fuck this.

I guess Kameo and Project Dark Zero are delayed to try and make them look less like Gamecube ports. Ho-hum.
Meanwhile, original fare like Gitaroo Man and Amplitude keeps kicking my ass on the PS2.

Ok, let's go back through time (off the top of my head): Nintendo - Mario and Golf. The actual title was golf. Mario was a really fat golfer. Sega Genesis - Sonic the Hedgehog. Super Nintendo - Mario and Hal's Hole in One Golf. Sega Saturn - Panzer Dragoon Orta. Atari Jaguar - Actually had a pretty good launch with Cannon Fodder and Flashback. The rest - crap. Sega Dreamcast - Dead or Alive 2 and Blue Stinger. Playstation - Nothing. All shit. I think there was a Mortal Kombat. Playstation 2 - Fantavision and some other total shit. Gamecube - Mario. Xbox - Don't even remember. Didn't buy it until a year after release. The 360 launch is awesome by comparison. Edit: Looked it up, Xbox had Halo, DOA3 and Abe's Odyssey. Arguably the strongest launch list ever.

The Sega Genesis did not launch with Sonic the Hedgehog as a launch title. That title didn't come out until almost 2 years after release if I recall correctly. I was working at EB at the time Sonic was released, and it was the Mario killer that everyone hoped it would be.
The SNES released with F-Zero and that weirdo flight simulator game whose name I forget. Super Mario Bros. for SNES didn't come out until after release.

I was working at EB at the time Sonic was released, and it was the Mario killer that everyone hoped it would be. IIRC Super Mario World still trashed the shit out of Sonic. Genesis may have launched with Altered Beast. I really don't remember, I was in the Nintendo camp. The SNES released with F-Zero and that weirdo flight simulator game whose name I forget. Super Mario Bros. for SNES didn't come out until after release. Super Mario World came out at release for the SNES. I Got it on Launch Day. The Flight Simulator was called Pilotwings. In fact, Super Mario World was a pack-in title at some places like Best Products. The other game that I got on launch day, as I mentioned, was Hal's Hole in One Golf. Edit: Point is, All the launches in the history of games have pretty much been shit. Snes and Genesis included. They were actually super shitty. Shitty enough that I didn't even buy a Genesis for a few years (thought I now own the Sega CD and 32x as well).

Genesis had Altered Beast and Space Harrier 2 at launch.
Sonic came out 3 years later.

Yea, I just confirmed it via Gamespy. No one talks about the rest of their launch. I wonder why. Or I don't.

I actually had a Genesis at launch. My opening day games (ok got it for Christmas, but parents grabbed it VERY early on..) were Altered Beast(pack in), Last Battle, and Super Thunder Blade. Other release day games included Tommy Lasorda Baseball, Thunderforce 2, Space Harrier 2, and a couple more titles I forget. Since it was 1989.
Within 6 months it had Ghouls n Ghosts, Golden Axe, Alex Kidd, Mystic Defender, and Phantasy Star 2, all of which were pretty good to totally fucking badass and still awesome today. Sonic came out about a year/year and a half later. I passed on it after renting it and got Valis 3 & Star Control instead. I do not regret this decision.
The SNES launched with Pilotwings, Mario (sucked), F Zero, Sim City, and possibly a couple third party games. The early release SNES games that were cool included UN Squadron (still my favorite SHMUP), Final Fantasy 2, Castlevania 4, and Actraiser.
Neither system had a bad launch day library, and both had some great early release titles.
The Dreamcast is widely considered to have one of the best launch title collections ever. Soul Calibur and NFL 2K anyone? Within 9 months it had Tony Hawk and Resident Evil Code Veronica, as well as Chu Chu Rocket.
The Playstation 1 had a weak launch/early release library. There was Ridge Racer and a bunch of crap. This continued for most of the first year. And even the good to ok early releases don't hold up now. Tekken? Ridge Racer? Battle Arena Toshinden? Why the hell would you want to play any of them now? (Why would anyone want to play Tekken ever is beyond me though..)
PS2 had a weak one, though Timesplitters was pretty awesome. Hell, I would take Timesplitters over Halo any day. One is a fun and stylish FPS with lots of things to do and a fuck ton of multiplayer options, even cool bot laden ones. Halo? Repetative cut and paste hallways and massively limited multiplayer.
That shows what the X Box launch was. People jerking it to a pretty but sub par shooter that would have been NOTHING had it been released on another system a year after release. But it was the closest thing to a worthwhile game the X Box had until KOTOR...
Oh yeah. Not buying X Box 360. Even if the real version was 300. No real backwards compatibility, shit me too games we have to pay 10-15 dollars more for, and just general bleh ness makes this system a joke. I laugh and mock those foolish enough to buy this hunk of shit. PS: Sell me your decent X Box games at 5 bucks a title since most of them won't be playable on your new system anyhow. SUCKERS.

ActRaiser was arguably launch on SNES and wholly underrated. Final Fantasy II took a goddamn long time to come out, I remember because it was one of the first games i ever bought with my own money.
The Genesis started strong, but got boring. It's one of the reasons I don't think much of it. On the other hand, I have my Dreamcast still hooked up and give it love every now and again. It's probably my favorite console besides the SNES - but if you take FF4 and 6 out of the loop, I don't care much for my SNES. Unfortunately, the games on the Dreamcast dropped off quicker than the Genesis. The Dreamcast also, arguably, had the most inventive games on it throughout it's life span. I loved the "not quite right" fighters like Rival Schools and Tech Romancer. Also, Seaman. And you can't discount that it's the first and only console that had a mouse and keyboard specifically for kickass use in Quake III Arena and Half-Life. Unfortunately, the system didn't even need to be modded. Whoops.
As far as the 360 goes? There's 3 titles I want. That puts it up there with the Dreamcast and SNES for me in terms of launches. But if we want to go on the "within 6 months" scale for the 360 - Lost Odyssey and Ninety Nine Nights make it one of the Best Launches Evar - assuming Sakaguchi and Mizoguchi don't go insane. Also, Microsoft should really revive Mythica (renaming it Valhalla or someshit) and True Fantasy Online for the 360. Here's hoping.

The SNES launched with Pilotwings, Mario (sucked), wait wait wait wait wait Super Mario World..... sucked? I think it's the best launch title ever, and I really doubt we'll see one of that caliber again. Mario64 wasn't even a quarter the game it was.

Mario64 wasn't even a quarter the game it was. I wholly agree. But I thought Super Mario World wasn't anywhere near as good as Super Mario Bros. 3 so I can see where Jain Zar is coming from.

I was saying this months ago. The first XBox 360 games are all either delayed or basically straight ports with shaders added at the last minute. There just isn't enough time.

Gamecube - Mario.
Errr, no. Not a Mario in sight, except his brother Luigi. Cel Damage was entertaining, Luigi's Mansion very playable but short - and don't go dissing Super Monkey Ball! Lots of ports esp. sports titles, though. I don't believe the XBox 360 will get any more original games than the XBox, so I will patiently await the PS3 instead.

I LOVED Pilotwings. That game was very original at the time. I had lot and lots of fun, also the soundtrack rocked. It was that soft techno kind of beat.
I cant count the amount of times I did the skydiving and never opened my shoot, or flying up as high as I could with the rocketpack just to let myself fall to my death.
Great game. And the last level was that helicoptor that was hard as fuck.

Mario64 wasn't even a quarter the game it was. I wholly agree. But I thought Super Mario World wasn't anywhere near as good as Super Mario Bros. 3 so I can see where Jain Zar is coming from. Ive only thought 2 Mario games were actually GOOD games. SMB1 which for its time was a revelation in gameplay, and SMB3 which was just packed to the gills with stuff. SMB2 was ok, World completely underwhelmed, 64 was massively overrated and was honestly less fun than its PS1 competitor Tomb Raider (which isn't that much much either. Cept SMB 64 doesn't have the embarassing Liefieldian proportioned Lara Croft on the cover...), and I haven't bothered with any of the later games. Ive only beaten SMB1 and 3, and I never bought 3, I borrowed it from a friend. If non "Official" Mario branded games count I would say Paper Mario rocks out with its mushrooms out so to speak. Awesome game.

Tetris: The Grandmaster Ace Should this even count toward their total? I can already play Tetris on... well... every fucking system ever made. And it's just as good on my old NES as it would be on the Xbox 4320 in the year 2053. Because it's fucking Tetris. It doesn't change. And if it does change, I don't want it anymore. Edit: SNES owned Genesis. "Blast Processing" my ass.

This new tetris is HD with super high res textures, shader effects and um...bouncing boobs or something. Wonder how much it costs? Maybe for $5 it would be worth it.
