Anyone have any idea why this game isn't getting published in the US? Is there something I'm missing? Because it sounds like an interesting X-COM clone/sequel/thing.

The reason that it probably isn't getting published is that the first one was hyped a lot as an X-Com sequel (which it isn't, at all, despite what everyone thinks) and sucked totally. IT'S FUCKING REALTIME, HOW IS THAT AN XCOM SEQUEL?

Maybe this sequel will pull a 180 but I doubt it. It's still real time.

RTS can lick my balls.

But yeah, my list of desired pc games for the rest of the year reads....Civ 4. And I'm half-convinced they'll fuck that up badly. Just a feeling.

Agreed on all counts. There are some definite ways to iimprove Civ...hope they find them without messing it up. Not too hopeful, however. Arrgh.

We are talking about the Nichebox, not the Xbox... unless NG:Black is coming to the PC.  But it's a console game.

I can't think of anything on the PC I am excited about for '05.  I don't need Civ4, I have freeciv.  You can hope B&W2 won't suck; have fun watching your dumbass giant monkey shit in your granary and eat your villagers, despite vigorous slapping.

I am afraid to look forward to Cthulu.  I will pretend it doesn't exist until after release.  The less you know, the more sane you are.

I should have added "... and I don't play it."  Assume that I played the shit out of Civ2, too.  Something happened to me during SMAC.  Maybe Civ4 will have good AI and give free blowjobs, but I'm not looking for it.

I forgot to mention X3. X2 ended up being a disappointment to me, but I'll keep my eye on this one anyways. A total lack of space sims (not to mention adventure games) makes me sad.

It's pretty at least:

;) I'll give you the fact it's gorgeous, the screenies are very nice. But it's RTS. TBS or death imo. Those X3 shots look hot, too. Goddamned RTS.

As for Quake 4....blah. More generic shooter garbage. HL2 was my last generic fps. I need more game than shoot this, find the button and/or keycard. And that game was better than that Doom 3 crap (borrowed a copy from a friend).

Black and White 2...no. Lionhead cashed in all it's goodwill with me. I'll admit the first level of B&W was pretty cool, the game went straight into the shitter after that imo. And Fable...oh hell no. Never again, fooled me enough.

Bully, maybe. If it doesn't get censored into hohumity. Tony Hawk got way too difficult for me after THPS2, when you started needing insane strung-together combos to complete basic game objectives. I'm too old for that shit.

I never got into the whole Civ craze. I tried one of them on the SNES, back before I knew anything about PC's.

It sucked.

I too am not looking forward to much of anything as far as gaming goes. I can't think of anything offhand that I want to play.

Might as well just off yourself right now.  The future, she is bleak.

Edit: All jerkiness aside, there's a lot I'm looking forward to.  None of it really on the PC.  Which is great since I don't currently have a working one.

Civ on the SNES ? Might have been the conversion that sucked, consoles aren't really great for deep strategy games.

As for PC games or games in general, 2005 hasn't been a great year so far ... But fall has a stronger line-up so there is still hope  wink

The Civ version for SNES was the original  So.. 16 bit graphics would have been a-ok for it.  Gameplay, however, still must've sucked since you couldn't key anything and joypad <<< mouse for scrolling.

Well, I was 9, and the interface was absolutly ARCANE.

Auto Assault?  Yeah I dunno I haven't followed closely (I try to stay away from beta boards these days) but to me it would take a "lets make this like LineageII" style-fuckup to completely sour the concept.

I worked for Nintendo when the SNES came out. There were quite a few games that were available for both PC and consoles, and the console versions were always totally lame (usually in the horrifying UI). The only one I I remember not being a total clusterfuck was Populous, and even that was at least 50% better on the PC. I quit before Civ came out though, so I am just guessing at how bad it was.

I'll try not to say much, but if you can recall, I even saw some good ideas in MxO. I can get harsh about games that I don't like, but I do experiment with them first, and try to be fairly open minded before judging them.

That being said, I could have more fun in WW2OL than I could in AA (as it stands, at least).

You know it's good cheese when you can be served a meal consisting of just assorted cheeses, and like it.

EDIT: Going against my better judgement, I downloaded FreeCiv, and played for about 3 minutes.

Unintuitive interfaces for the lose.

I guess I don't mind pausable 'real time' tactical combat games. After all, I liked Syndicate, Myth, and the Total War franchise. It seems to me that an 'xcom-like' tactical combat game (with RPG-lite elements) would fill a huge gaping hole in the currently available game types. Honestly, this seems to be the closest thing to Jagged Alliance 2 since the Y2K bug ate Gopher. I'd be silly not to at least keep an eye on the reviews.

So. Honestly. If the only 'bad' thing about it is that it is 'real time'... *shrug*

As to the stuff on the horizion, between Rome: Barbarian Invasion, Civ4, FEAR, Oblivion, Half-Life 2: Aftermath(and maybe X3. hmm. space sims) - I'm going to drowning in PC games in Q4.

Which is why I wish they'd space them out through the year instead of the damn pre-christmas deluge.
