Second Death Reported at L.I. Amusement ParkFarmingdale, NY (AP) – For the second time in as many days, a person has died from injuries suffered at a Long Island amusement park.
A state official said a 45-year-old woman was killed today after being thrown from the Top Scan, landing in a parking lot next to the Adventureland amusement park. The ride features rotating cars that spin in the shape of a pinwheel.
A Suffolk County police spokesman said homicide detectives are at the scene.
The accident follows yesterday’s death of a park employee, 18-year-old Stephen Gary, of North Babylon, who was struck by a kiddie roller coaster.
Department of Labor spokesman Robert Lillpopp said today that the roller coaster, the Lady Bug, had been reinspected and was cleared to resume operations. He said the Top Scan ride will be closed pending an investigation into the death.
