Zombie phantomware is roaming the streets of Europe!
I assume this is an effort to solicit more investment dollars to keep paying salaries of deadweight suits.

Meanwhile, that keyboard still looks like the sweet nectar of the gods As someone with almost 2 years of pc gaming from the sofa under my belt, I disagree. I've never liked the look of it, but logistically, the angle is way too steep, you'd get severe wrist ache because of the angle. I have to keep mine flat on my lap to avoid that, it's done wonders for my touch typing (which isn't saying much). Also, the mouse is a bit too centered on the lap, it's nice letting the hand fall naturally to your side, which is where my mouse sits. Oh...and it has a wire. Wires BAD.

As apt a description as we are ever likely to see. Well done.

Holy crap.
It's... solid. It's really there. He's holding it. Somehow, I get the feeling that it wasn't built, so much as summoned into existence through a bloody ritual.

Amazing what those industrual design majors in college could do with that stuff for mock-ups. If it's not plugged in and playing, that's all it is.

One would actually have to have a service, with game publishers providing actual games on said service, for him to actually be playing it.
After they manage to custom fit the obviously not-going-to-fit standard PC components into that flat Pong-machine looking POS, the price will likely be $700.

Oh I didn't say it actually WORKS. Just that he's holding a solid one- until now I believe all we've seen are ultra-sleek 3D renders.

At E3 2004 I played it. They were running an FPS, iirc Unreal Tournament 2004. The hardware is functional and the keyboard doesn't actually suck. In fact, the angle of the base and the swivel nature makes it entirely conducive to lap-play while using a mouse. Basically, Phantom's problems have not really been about hardware.
It's been about the business model, which to date, has been a pipe dream they haven't seem to be able to sell to anyone. Can't say I'm surprised. With console games outselling PC ones somewhere on the order of 10 to 1, making the 10bil video games industry dominated by them, signing on to deliver PC games in a rental model just doesn't have the allure. Worse, Infinium is not a huge content provider like Microsoft or Sony, but rather just a middleman that, to some, looks like little more than a money grab a few years too late. They're basically not offering anything besides a method to extract some extra cash and royalty revenue.
After so much time trying to sell this nigh unsellable concept, I'd personally drop the bad idea and chase something more compelling, like selling ad space in games or RMTing or something. The company certainly seems suited for that sort of thinking.

Except USB keyboards only work for text input on the 360, no game control.

Heh. For size reference, triple the width of a Blackberry and double the height (assuming thumb keys). Now try and imagine using the analog controls :P

Perhaps I am mistaken, but aren't all consoles effectively loss-leaders, with the profit being in sales of software? Given that, how do these people continue to get funds for a vapor product in an unprofitable product class, while people with real game designs can't get funding for MMOs, a class that has shown at least the possibility of a profitable outcome?

Because people keep creating and contributing to threads about a console that acknowledges its phantom status with its very name.
