Paradox Interactive 10th largest strategy publisher in North America* Stockholm, Aug 17, 2005 - Paradox Interactive continues to strengthen its position as a leading publisher of strategy games in North America. The latest data from the NPD group* places Paradox in the top 10 of publishers of strategy games in North America, well ahead of established publishers like CDV, Eidos and Dreamcatcher. EA, Microsoft and Atari top the list. "Our aggressive long term plans to fill the void left by companies like SSI, Microprose and Avalon Hill Interactive are already starting to pay off and it has been a fantastic year for us so far with titles like Hearts of Iron II and Knights of Honor. With our upcoming title Diplomacy being released this fall, we are looking at an even stronger finish to a strong year," says Theodore Bergquist, CEO at Paradox Interactive. After the split from Paradox Entertainment, the interactive part of Paradox has re-focused on the core of their expertise - publishing quality strategy games for the PC platform. Currently in negotiations for several new and exciting titles, the company announces that next year's portfolio will more than double from this year. "We also attribute our success this year to the great co-operation we have had with our external partners", continues Mr Bergquist. "Working with Atari on the distribution side in North America, a company who fully understands and back our ambitious goals, has made this a great journey - one that is only just beginning." About Paradox Interactive:Paradox Interactive has been a leading publisher and developer of strategy games for the PC platform since 1999. Well renowned in their niche of strategy games, the company's distribution network and followers span the globe. Paradox's experienced team has completed more than 16 titles, including such best-selling games as the Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron franchises, as well as Crusader Kings. Fair question. They did specify *strategy* publishers. Not many companies count themselves as such. The ones I can name off the top of my head are pretty small - Shrapnel, Battlefront, Matrix, Strategy First. Unless they're counting the big multi-genre companies too, i.e. Take Two for Civ4.

That's what I was thinking, but the net connection at this show forbid me from actually doing research, I'm lucky when this page loads in under a minute.

When she crossed over, she was just a ship. But when she came back... she was bullshit!

Since they are putting themselves *behind* Microsoft and such, I'd say they're including all publishers that have put out strategy titles this year, but counting by their volume on those titles only.

They better watch out or they'll be bought by Hasbro and have the life sucked out of them until they're nothing more than an empty husk.

Er, I'm not sure that being ranked #10 in a niche market of an industry is something to brag about. It's like saying you're the 10th largest manufacturer of sports cars, because the offhand comment is something like "are there even 10 of them?". Even being 10th largest in an industry is no great shakes, but 10th largest in a subset of an industry?
But good for them. I like underdogs and "the small guys", so good luck with it.

Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us." -SC

Most of the discussions I've seen/heard about them in Sweden is that theese guys are far from starving artists and just as far from being John Carmack.
