*sigh*
I have no idea what you're talking about.
I was only trying to point out that my hands are large enough to palm a basketball. So I can like, slam dunk and stuff.....And...Not leave certain other spaces left untouched.
There may or may not be certain "side effects", but I wasn't trying to go there.

I have a terrible, terrible, terrible head cold but that has nothing to do with it. I'm just in the mood for some very groggy ass kicking and Stray is so easy.
(what with those big, clumsy hand of his. And whatnot.)

If I get a beta invite out of it, then feel free to fire away. Other than that, talk to the hand(s).

Necropost. New invites seem to have gone out last night; I received mine, along with a friend of mine who's also a long-time (since release day) subscriber. Sadly, I can't currently test due to reasons that I can't reveal, what with the NDA and all.

I find it strange though...Since you're one of the only people I'm in some contact with who played CoH fairly longterm (+6 months or so). This does not bode well.

I know... I stuck that in The News Thread a couple of days ago, and it killed the thread. I keep checking back to see if maybe I accidentally posted Hobbit pr0n or music lyrics. oops... I posted the big article, not the screens. Sorry.

Apparently they didn't. I was just starting to go through them and then suddenly *poof*, they took down all the new screenshots.

I've been in the CoV beta for almost 4 weeks now. But still can't talk about it, that darned NDA and all. I was a subscriber from the 2 day head start for pre-ordering, with no unsubbing at all.
But I like to blame it on having hardware that is above the norm.

Actually had a good read going through the 30 page thread on the COV boards where you laid down some wisdom. It's too bad that Cryptic JUST DOESN'T GET IT. Oh well, maybe taking it up the ass financially is what they deserve.

Don't willy wave your superiour computer specs... you were picked by some sub standard script just like us cheap ass punters with the lousy kit. I hope we don't soil your pricey Alienware E-Peen too much. Edit: I'm gonna kick your ass later, too!

Suffice it to say that what was bothering me before now isn't bothering me as much, but I do still think it will be an issue at release.

Have I once "boasted" or said my machine was better than anyone elses? I simply made a factual statement, that my machine is above the norm. Not that it's any better than any particular persons. And before you accuse a geek of using Alienware, you had better make sure they actually do. Being called an Alienware owner is an insult of the highest order. :-D I've been hand building my own machines from the Apple II days. Anyway back to the NDA subject, I've been surprisingly enjoying the new software.

What ever came out of the "Expansion vs Stand-alone game" debate? Is this a $30.00 a month game now or what?
On the one hand, I would love to play around with villain characters...on the other hand I like playing my main too. And having to pick one or the other for $15.00/month is just stupid.

Anyway back to the NDA subject, I've been surprisingly enjoying the new software. Hey look! Some one took me seriously! I told you lot someone would someday! Go me. They say you use CoV as an expansion or as a stand alone. If you add it to you PlayNC game list, you will have to pay a normal $15 monthy fee to play. If you update your CoH account with the CoV retail code, you can use it as an expansion. Statesman said a while ago that it will be from $0-$5 extra, that it will certainly not cost $15 and, in a couple of interviews, said they haven't made any announcement on that yet. Duh. I think it's pretty unreasonable to let it go on this long. Sadly, people have pre-ordered the game and have no idea what the final price will be. The damn thing already cost $20 more than any other expansion. I ordered the game under the impression that if I use it as an expansion, there would be no extra charge. I have NO idea where I got that from... I guess I made it up. Today I cancelled my order. Hopefully, other's have done so in large numbers. It's a terrible precedent to set!

I'm just not going to pay anymore than the box price to have access to an expansion, no matter how they want to term it as a standalone game. If I can interact with the player base of CoH in anyway, it's a goddamn expansion, NOT a standalone game. You ask me, or even if you didn't, that's the same as the makers of EQ1 saying that in order to play an Iksar or play on the Kunark continent, you had to pay an extra subscription fee. Fuck that.

Take a moment to imagine the consequences for the industry if CoV adds even $5.00 a month, and people go for it.

I don't like the idea either. I think a lot of people would dislike that sort of precedent and will shun the deal, or possibly the game all together. Hopefully, they'll be vocal about the motivation for their decision.

Seems to me like a lot of CoH players are apologists for everything Cryptic does. They won't say or do shit.

I know... most people who quit a game, even when there is a principle behind it... simply cancel. Most people never even use the game forums socially or to voice concerns. The people on both the CoH and the CoV beta boards who actually voice any displeasure are almost immediately beaten down until they wander off, except for a brave few. (not me! I'm too lazy to be brave!) They are both the most preachy boards I've ever been on, too. I have never seen so many people yell about repeat threads, not using search properly, asking too many questions, all sorts of stuff... they invariably end in a lecture about "what a beta tester is". Sanctimonious twats.

Heh. In two separate threads I had to argue the validity of my points, and explain that it was, in fact, my responsibility to raise these issues as a beta tester. I love the people who think "constructive criticism" means "shut your goddamn mouth unless you have something nice to say."

I remember people saying this to Origin (in mags) in '97. And I think there's a lot of room for additional fees in the mind of the average subscriber.

Signe, Llava, did either of you read the beta forums for Shadowbane, or SWG? They were at least as bad, if not worse.
Then again, I tend to only read dev posts, and the architype forums. The AT forums tend to stay pretty sane, really... have have useful info/discussion. I only read general chatter HERE when I'm bored... I'd need to have a death wish before I'd read it on a game's forums.

Yes, I've read all of those and they're all nasty. Game boards are nasty as a rule. I don't remember any board, however, being as preachy as CoV and CoH, however. Especially considering they're not particularly busy. The lectures are even worse than those on the Horizons board. The CoV board probably has more posts lecturing people on how to post and what a beta tester is than it has bug posts. At least the WoW and SB boards made me laugh now and then.

If NCSoft go monthly fee+$X for CoH + CoV, people might move to AO + NW + SL + AI + LE at monthly fee +$0. It already has the mission buildings, after all. :) AO plus the first expansions (Lost Eden isn't out yet) is a $10 purchase.
Or even - dare I say it - SW:G + JtL + RotW (also relatively cheap in the combined edition) at monthly fee +$0. Or a Station Pass at monthly fee +$little for quite some variety of games.
Hell, NCSoft is the only non-SOE company that has enough games to make a Station Pass like thingy themselves. Just get with the program already.
