After soundly shitting on the genre in another thread, I caved and bought it.

On paper, the game is ass.  Campy sooper heroes fight generic bad guys in Hometown, USA using a variety of powers that sound a lot like spells.

But in-game, it rocks me.  Its a weird theory-practice schism that I can only attribute to great implementation.

Either that or someone sold their soul to Satan.  There's no other rational way to explain it, it should suck... but it doesn't!

Assault/Device feels a lot like playing Fallout/Syndicate/Wasteland. Burst + Slug + M30 in quick succession is usually a good time for all.

I do that in reverse.  M30 on a group of mobs, followed by a Slug and then SBurst.  At that point one guy is really fucked up or dead, and his angry friend is coming right at me with a crowbar.  He gets a Buckshot followed by a Web Grenade and gets to sit in time-out while I reload.

This gets a little more complicated in a group fight, but I just can't resist hitting all those tightly-grouped gangers with one M30.  The yellow damage indicators float up like bubbles in a champagne from the Fuck You region of southern Cal.

And you STILL didnt get on the server everyone else is on... *boggle*

BWL is funny tho.  It's like watching a Special Needs school take a field trip to a minefield.

This was my very first character, so I didn't worry about what server he was on, figuring he'd be screwed up and I'd toss him.  Somehow he turned out to be pretty much perfect.

I would have to totally recreate him on Victory, and with limited playtime compared to most here combined with the fact that I would be starting all over from 1st level, time spent in-game with the crowd here would probably be pretty minimal.

With Sidekicking, it wouldn't be a problem.  Level 1-8 general go by VERY quickly so if you want to explore the Bat, it's say set your sights on Victory.   Damn that sounded almost motivtational by accident.

Explore the bat? It almost sounds pornographic.

I blame the level of interactivity as to why CoH is not sucking.  The thing that's bothered me about the vast majority of other MMORPGs is they don't give you, the player, much to do.   Instead it's just a game of time investment, then target and autoattack determines success or failure in a given endeavor.   Here in City of Heroes, your involvement is quite important, and your powers need to be fired off at the right time from the right place in the right direction in order to do well in a fight.    That you get a new power every two levels keeps things interesting.

That and the game is quite fast paced with a high volume of mobs.  Very nearly arcadish, but with the same real time turn based mechanics most MMORPGs have under the hood.
