Living near Atlanta, Georgia, I tend to see Ted Turner’s presence pretty much everywhere I look in the city: from TBS to Cartoon Network, CNN, baseball stadiums and now this (each one has a building, more or less).  Turner Broadcasting is preparing to launch a PC online service that allows users to have an unlimited access to a giant library of games, including Beyond Good & Evil (yay!).  What’s more, the library expands beyond PC games to emulated console games - from “the Atari 2600, Intellivision, Genesis, 32X, Game Gear, Sega Master System, Dreamcast, PlayStation, arcades, and more,” as quoted by the GameSpot write-up.

It’ll be interesting to see how this works out, because the idea is much akin to Nintendo’s forthcoming online service that allows users to download Nintendo’s back catalogue in a very iTunes-like fashion.  I mean, I know plenty of people who do not like MMORPG’s but don’t mind paying a monthly fee for games - think of GameFly, only without having to wait in the mail.  Of course, no current-generation games will be available, but for me, that’s pefectly fine.  The official launch date is October 3rd.

Wow, did anyone even see this coming?

I can't wait for the lawsuits over the emulation stuff to start. Should be good popcorn viewing.
