Blizzard developed and released their Talent Calculator:

http://worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/warriors/talents.html

I haven't messed with it much yet, but if it works as well as the one for the new Hunter stuff it should be good.

By the way, it is for all classes now.

Man I just wasted an hour messing with it and it is helping me plan quite a bit.  I'm glad they did it.

Of course, the fact that my server has no issues might have something to do with that opinion.

YAY! Now I don't have to visit the vault anymore for their calculator! Happy is me!

On the downside it means I will have to go back to the vault when Blizz breaks their site and I'm on too much of a WoW trip to just do something else. >_<

Thottbott has one as well. I've used it forever, and it's about 10x faster than blizz's site.

It's not pointless, fire them and hire more server monkies. I mean really, it's a priority issue. Their priority is to show the world that everything is cute and cuddly inside Blizzard Co. while in all likelihood half of the server programmers and techs are about four seconds from quitting because there obviously aren't enough people. I believe it was a few weeks back where they said "People will be in to fix the servers in a few hours, please bear with us." Fuck that shit. I'm sorry, but this is just disgust of what's accepted in this industry. If this were in the EQII forum and was about that game, I would have said it there. Who gives a flying fuck about the website when five to ten servers worth of people CAN'T PLAY A GAME THEY'RE PAYING FOR. Cheeeeerist, stop giving these assholes a way out.

You know, since Blizzard is wearing nothing but money hats, why should they fire the talent calculator guys?

They should be able to keep them AND hire server monkeys.

Sorry, I didn't realize you were so privy to the inner workings of Blizzard as to be aware of the stress levels of a certain percentage of their server monkeys.

This wasn't in the EQII forum though..actually, nothing has been said there in a couple of days :P

I wasn't aware that 10 servers were completely nonfunctional at this point. Obviously I have not been paying enough attention to the Realm Forums or something.

Hasn't Blizzard been giving out credit for free days left right and center when these problems happen? I know I had to readjust my budget when I realized I was going to get charged quite a bit later than I expected.

I'm not giving them a way out. I know they have issues. Those issues disconnect me at least once a night. But I am also not attacking them no matter what they do.

If they fired those guys, hired more server monkies and fixed the servers, you would complain that they weren't improving the website. ~insert random blasphemy here~, stop insisting that these guys can't do anything right.

Edit: Space bars are cool.

No, I really wouldn't. I don't think I've ever complained once about "improving websites" or "random blasphemy." This is pretty damn targeted. I'm just saying their priorities are totally out of whack and you're defending them.

Why? I don't know. They gave you a money hat, didn't they?

Then by your standards they could just stop doing ANYTHING else and ONLY fix the servers?

And you wouldn't make a single negative comment about that?

I'm not defending them, I'm just pointing out that your comment was stupid and pointless.

I'm in the Army. If they gave me a money hat, I would lose my clearance and my job. Seriously.

Yes, their servers are "fuxx0red" or however your leet-spell it. But that doesn't mean that whenever they do something NOT server-related I'm going to scream "Stop doing that! You're just trying to hide the fact that you still have serious server issues this late after launch! Fire everyone else and only fix the servers!"

And the random blasphemy thing was meant to be funny, dude. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeesh.

Of course you would.

You wouldn't make a single comment about how with the amount of money they're raking in, they should be able to fix the servers AND do other shit.

I would expect a comment like that, because IT WOULD BE CORRECT!

I don't want them to stop everything else to fix the fucking servers.

I want them to fix the fucking servers AND do other cool shit. Even talent calculator shit.

I'm sorry that WOW got you drunk, commited carnal acts involving your body and several large probing objects and then took pictures and showed them to all your friends.

But seriously now? "Talent calculators are smoke and mirrors! Look behind the curtain at the problem they are trying to hide! The one that everyone else has been complaining about since day one! I'm the only one who can point this out! The rest of you are slavering fanbois with money hats!"

It gets tiresome.

It would be, but apparently they aren't capable of doing both at the same time. Also, given the issues they have, I wouldn't be surprised if the cost per player was more than most other MMORPGs and that they aren't actually raking in THAT much money.

I'm not trying to prove you wrong about the job they're doing on the servers.

I'm just saying that your comment about the talent calculator was stupid and pointless.

It was.

You claimed that the talent calculator was a case of smoke and mirrors to draw attention away from the server issues. That was a stupid and pointless thing to say.

Nobody is going to be so distracted by a talent calculator that they forget about being disconnected.

Vote with your wallet all you want. Pretty sure you've already lost the election for MMOG King. Especially since from your recent post in the other forum, you appear to be voting for EQII? That's funny.

EQII had some very innovative concepts. And it's servers are more stable. But the graphics are hideous, my game crawled when I had to pass a bunch of people talking, and it was BORING!

WOW is fun. Which is what I look for in the game. I'm not trying to be immersed, or reach some new epiphany, or wtfever the perfect game is supposed to achieve for you. I just want to have fun. Yeah, I get d/c'd. It's a bitch. I reconnect and go back to having fun. I file my requisite trouble ticket when I see quest typos or have interaction issues. But mostly I have fun. Which is what I am in the game for.

Last time I checked, a few MILLION people apparently feel the same way.

Anyway, to sum up.

Making intelligent critical comments about inferior service or product. GOOD!

Making stupid pointless attacks against virtually everything a game production team does. STUPID AND TIRESOME!

The part about smoke and mirrors was somewhat in jest, but I'm going to say this once, because it's really simple.

Touche, but I still think releasing something that already exists in at least 3 other forms when they've got other shit on their plate is bad marketing. I mean, let's be real here. We know companies with horrible shit going on work on fluffy shit like this at the same time. We know the server monkies on WoW aren't the ones in charge of the bullshit thrown on the web page. But really, that should be their top concern. Informing readers of what is actually going on. Saying things like "We're using shitty refurbished hardware from when we launched Earthen Ring" or whatever. Just because they can't work directly on the servers doesn't mean they can't be doing something in tandem to fix the problem at hand.

Dammit, Fabricated!

It had started to wind down, and just as I was trying to think of something evil to say to ratchet it all the way back up, you jump in :P

Nice build, though. Don't you think sword spec is a tad cliche though? Not that hammer or axe is any less...actually, my warrior alt has only made it to 15...which is the stereo-spec these days?

~sigh~

Ah, well. I'm reasonably sure I can count on Schild to make more snarky comments about WOW in another thread any time now.

Hardly anyone does sword spec since it's so much "easier" to go Axe and get an Arcanite Reaper, or now with the Ice Barbed Spear, go Polearm.

The biggest factor in me choosing sword spec was the fact I like the way swords look over axes. To me an extra hit is as good as a crit, especially with a nice proc-on-hit sword. Pure crit may be better overall on paper (since you'll crit a hell of a lot more with proper gear), but fuck, I don't care about being better on paper.

Well, my warrior is human, so I'm probably going sword and board or polearm anyway.

Hammers and axes are for dwarves, dogonnit.

That, and I noticed I get a nicer graphic swoosh with my one-handed sword. "It looks pretty" probably isn't the best reason to spec something, but I'm shallow enough that it works for me.

Axe is the cliche build because of the high delay on axes and the Arcanite Reaper which is an ungodly weapon to Mortal Strike with.

What's the difference tho?  I've played with the WOW site one (for the new hunter talents) and the thottbot one.  They count points, & keep track of what talents you're taking. About the only difference I can see is the use of right-click to remove points instead of having to cycle around.

Ditto. Blue/Purple hammers tend to have neat proc-on-hit effects though, like long stuns or the like.

I mean, it's the least powerful of the first set of Weaponsmith items, but The Shatterer has a really fun proc-on-hit for pissing people off in duels. 10 seconds without a weapon feels like a fucking eternity for a warrior or pally, and it's even worse if you're a warrior/rogue and follow up a proc with a disarm.

All I know is that after using the calculator last night I figured out that I really really need to redo my priest and warlock talents.  Man, I missed a bunch of really useful talents there.

I'll probably reset my Pally talents too.  There just has to be a better build....there just has to be...

Sword spec is awesome, the only downside is that you can't get a sword that competes with the Reaper until you are in Molten Core.  It's an itemization issue, not a "+5% crit is better than a 6% chance for an extra attack" issue.  If they slowed down the Warblade of Caer Darrow a bit there would be better balance.
