Former morning show DJ charged with sexual assault

(July 22, 2005) A local disc jockey and a 27-year-old man have both been charged in an alleged sexual assault case that occurred last month at a Snow Hill restaurant and bar, according to the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation.

Eric Littleton, 34, of Delmar, Del., and Robert Thomas West, of Snow Hill, were charged with indecent exposure, second-degree assault and fourth-degree sexual assault.

The reported incident occurred during a promotional event for WZBH 93.5 FM at the Tavern on Green Street on Friday, June 15, around 7 p.m.

According to reports, Littleton – more commonly known as “Cowboy” on the radio – promised West a pair of ZZ Top concert tickets if he exposed himself to a patron at the bar.

The victim, identified only as a woman who resides in northern Worcester County, was seated at a table with other customers when West reportedly approached her from behind and placed his testicles on her arm.

When the victim saw what was happening, West apparently backed away and exited the area.

“This was done in a public area and was observed by numerous patrons of the establishment,” reported the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation.

Through investigation, officials discovered the reason behind the act. They also learned Littleton approached the victim and began a conversation with her while West reportedly came from behind to perform the assault.

Great Scott Broadcasting confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Littleton is no longer working for the radio station.

Not always the case, but most musicians have a backlog of songs that they've been performing since they learned their instruments and/or formed a band. 3 or 4 albums worth of material tops. Rarely even that.

If they get successful, their social lives change, their wants/needs change, their dreams change, and they're all crammed into a room and told to "Be a Genius". At that point, they're writing from a place lacking in any kind of inspiration or sincerity. No muses, no scene, nothing worth fighting for or struggling against.

At this point, some of the band members want to break up. Maybe the whole band. But they don't -- Either because they're under some restricting kind of contract to make another 2 albums, or because they decide to carry on because they believe in their own hype. Sometimes the label will notice all of this, and send in a "pro" (could be a producer, songwriter, or therapist) to help them find their beat. Either way, it makes the songs that much worse.

It's also not always a case of 'selling out' as much as 'getting old.'  It's hard to maintain the angst and hate that makes good hard music as you get older, and the blues doesn't sell like it used to.

The Beatles were only around 10 years though. Longer than most, but still, that isn't much. They were smart for quitting while they were ahead. That's a good example of what bands should do.

The Stones are still cool and all that, but they haven't made a great album since 1974. And they probably would have started writing crap earlier than that if Brian Jones didn't die (Not trying to be a jerk..I'm just saying that once Keith and Mick took over, it breathed new life into the band).

I dunno, I think Tomahawk > Fantomas, unless you're really in the mood for Fantomas. But middle to late FNM is definitely the best stuff. Mike Patton is teh man.

Anyway, Stray is bang-on. Bands have their entire lives to write the first album, then are told to make an even better album in a year or so. Some bands are lucky enough to have several members who can write voluminously and consistently, but those are the exceptions to the rule. Some bands just take 5 years per album (tool).

Age, changing circumstances, label pressure, there are an infinite number of variations on the theme, but the theme is the main thing in most cases.

I love the early ZZTop, though they've had some decent tracks on just about every album. I own Fandango and a compilation called One Foot in the Blues, both really great albums. When they add in synths and all the big MTV hits is where I tend to lose interest.

This sunday I'm off to my first U2 concert, which is great and all... but I'd rather have catched them I dunno, 10-20 years earlier in their carreer.

I live in the Bay Area and tend to see his shows anytime he plays around here ( a lot of New Years Eve shows).  Seen a few Mr. Bungle shows, seen him with Faith No More, Fantomas, and Maldoror, and saw Tomahawk open for Tool a few years back.

I always go to see Mike Patton with my brother and sister, who are also fans of his.  The night my sister and I saw Tomahawk and Tool, groupie that she is, she ended up with Maynard that night, and I've never been able to listen to Tool since.  I only wish that I was making that up.

I'm jonesing to see that SOAD/Mars Volta tour, sometimes it really, really sucks living in bumfuck, nowhere. I'd hate to see it at the Meadowlands, the closest venue. Next stop...Boston, fer crissakes. I wanna see SOAD, because they kick ass, but I really, really want to catch the Mars Volta. They rock my world (in a purely heterosexual and healthy way, of course).
