I read through most of the forum thread at Fark on this story. It amazed me how many people were going on about how that she should be treated the same way that a male teacher who had sex with a 14 year old girl would be treated.
Am I in that small of a minority in feeling that what she did really wasn't all that bad? I mean yes, it was inappropriate due to the fact that she was in a position of authority over him, but in my view this sure as hell wasn't rape.
The parents only found out by accident. Based on what we know, the kid was a more than willing participant. Does she really deserve hard jail time for this?
Am I really a bad person for feeling that there is a moral difference between an underage guy having sex and an underage girl? Fourteen is admitedly pushing boundaries, but I know I was more than ready to have all the sex I could at 14. (would have been nice if Id known some girls who were just as ready at the time, but that's unimportant right now)
What she did was wrong and inapropriate. She probably needs counciling, and shouldn't be teaching. She doesn't need jail time.

I think that's an artifact of the inequality of the sexes, honestly. It isn't like 14-year old girls aren't willingly having sex either. BUT, we as a society tend to expect boys to have sex, which is why we snicker at this. I mean, at 14, I'd have been all over her, teacher or not, if she'd showed me the attention.
But really, we have to be fair. He's no more "ready" for sex than a girl would be. If you let her off for banging a boy just because he's a boy, you have to let the male teacher off if the girl says she consented. And I don't think anybody is ready for that, nor should we be.

In general, yes. And I fully recognise the hypocracy in that. That being said, I don't find it beyond the realm of possibility for a 14 year old girl to intentionally seduce a 24 year old man. What level of punishment is appropriate if said guy gives in?

I don't know. I didn't feel molested. He taught swimming, too, and was very hawt. Actually, camp would have been unbearable that year (I was being sent there as punishment, btw) if it wasn't for the fooling around with the camp counselor.

Actually, age of consent varies widely in the US. In Ohio, for example, it's 16 so long as the age difference is no more than 4 years. Also - as an aside - if you're getting flirty messages from a 14F in Xenia, OH, it's a trap. At least once every 3 months there's a report on the news about some local guy being picked-up for meeting a 14 year old for sex. (In fact, once it was a local country Radio DJ) It's always the cops in Xenia, which just goes to show child molesters don't watch the news. |
