I used to love AC. I wonder if the best build is still unarmed with Life or Item magic. Excuse me, the only good build at all. Well, besides Item And Life magic.

Life or Item? There was never an or there. In the old days, it was have life magic or be a gimp. Period.

I've only played sporadically since, but as far as I can tell everyone who currently plays is around 150th level - so the current build is
Life, Item, Creature + War Magic or a Weapon. In otherwords, most people have pretty much everything trained now.

Seriously though, they did actually balance out the weapons quite a bit. Best I can tell - Sword, Axe , and Unarmed are the tops, but the others are still playable.

I may take a look at the expansion. That was why I resubbed a few month back really. Honestly though, I haven't logged in since I started WoW a month back, so who knows.

My character spec'd staff, lockpick, and healing.

Now that, my friend, was gimp.

Good old vagabond, eh?  Sort of like a swordfighter with war magic was back in the day.

Not too bad on the gimp scale.

I had Lockpick, Crossbow and Healing.

Worse, I re-rolled to Spear, Lockpick, Melee D specced. (and I think one of those had a Loyalty spec thrown in) Spear!

I didn't get it, till about a year into the game, that it was Cast or Die.  Then I did like everyone else, and had Life + Mana Conversion specced, and all four magic schools by level 32.  Which was so not fun that I quit.  The ultimate templates always started out with "Ok, you wont start having fun with this template till level 84..." or "You will need a full time twinker till level 72 with this template and then you..."

Taught me to stay away from forums and spoiler sites.  I should have stayed oblivious so the fun would last longer.

oh god how did this get here I am not good with computer

I think Turbine has a disaster on their hands with this xpack release. Too many people are logging in and finding out that its just more of the same, augmentation gems take billions of xp (LOL), and its just not worth returning to.  Existing players are mostly disappointed, and pillars of several server communities are putting up public posts wanting to know what other games people are going to start looking at.

ToD won't save AC1.

My first character spec'd unarmed and run, had bow, creature, and item - but no life. This was in the original days, when there was no melee love for high str/end. Now I will admit that specing healing is just downright sad, but playing without life magic on the early days of Darktide though... Let's just say that my pvp highlight was leading Og in to a newbie dungeon that had no portal at the entrance, and getting him lost.

That's about as close as that character came to a victory. I do miss those days though.

I don't care what the game is, or what the scale of experience is, but goddamn, that's just depressing. I cannot imagine looking at needing BILLIONS of exp. to "achieve" something and not being so depressed I'd want to quit immediately.

I like that I can go to a vendor and pay 0 for a coin that I can give to a nearby ambassador to instantly get enough exp to get me to 60th or 100th or whatever level I want (multiple of 20). Of course, my equipment will not match my level (thank you CoH for doing that right), but the rest of the game is the same boring flood of magic item loot that I left many moths ago anyway, so it doesn't take long to be up there.

For me, the only reaon to play it is that in the summer months my flat gets so hot GW and WoW frequently makes my videocard overheat. Maybe some Eve luvin is needed instead.

Well 1 billion xp in AC = a lvl 100 character

With a group (hard with low server pops) you can make 30-50 million an hour, but consistency you can expect to do around 25 per hour with random groups.  Some of these augmentation gems are going to take BILLIONS of xp, and I can't sit there and keep bashing bugs or the new creature of the month enough to bring myself to care.
