It's a PVP server. During my time on ER I never once encountered someone who RP'd well enough to make it tolerable. You could RP at me all day long and we'll leave it at that, k? :P

You picked up your Epic Mount Rasix?  Damn, I'm going to have a hell of a time trying to chase you down now. I remember when the troll mage picked up her epic mount, the speed boost is insane.

I'm at around 350 Gold right now, but I also have to worry about buying an Arcanite Reaper at some point also. To complicate things, with Alterac and the tailoring quests, it's now possible to get cross faction mounts in a way that isn't totally crippling. I've been putting in time to up my Darnassus faction as a result.

To chime in on the thread, I'm on Shadowsong too, but on the other side. Speaking of roleplaying though Rasix; word on the street is that there's an in-game wedding tonight. You going to be there? 99% chance of flagged violence.

God, yes, the speed boost is fucking insane, it's a whole new world.  The raptor bounces up and down like crazy. It's like piloting a gigantic reptilian vibrator.  I kind of wanted to get an arcanite reaper for pvp also (go back to a more 3 tree build) since I'm seeing burst damage for casters (priests mostly, mages just run away and warlocks I murder) is sorely needed.  Of course, I can just go to some boring MC raids and bid through the roof on the first usuable weapon that drops.

If I can make it to the wedding, I will.  With Lexanik though likely, because I'll want to bring some explosives and a flamethrower for the festivities.

Don't get the reaper. Do the raid quest in Alterac and get this. It's free and just as solid for mortal strike builds.

Compare: The quest spear

vs. The Reaper

My advice, don't fear the reaper.

The problem with that weapon is that polearm spec is inferior to axe spec due to its positioning on the tree. To get 5/5 in polearms you have to either give up improved hamstring or something from your minor tree (usually enrage). On a side note, there is nothing from that quest that a Shaman can use, damn polearm shoulda been an axe for more than 1 reason. :/

Righ still plays every night on ER.  He's in the guild Lucid Dream, which seems to be very active. (not an RP guild, however)  At least I notice he almost always seems to be in a group when he plays.  They do a lot of raids, too.  Me?  I still have a sub but I've not logged in for a couple of months or so.  I'm still playing CoH, though... all by myself.   cry

My advice, don't fear the reaper.

Some quick thoughts:

1. Rasix is a Shaman, as far as I know, he can't use polearms.

2. Some warriors don't like polearms because the benefit is only 2handed.  While there are 1h axes, there are no 1h polearms.  This can become a factor when you wish to tank with a shield, and want to retain your 5% crit.

3. Polearms are higher up the tree.  Unless you dump more than 31 points into Arms, a consequence of this is that you'll have to give up Improved Hamstring, which is very popular in PVP. With Axes, the other competing skills are other cross-weapon skills (easily avoided), and sweeping strikes.  However, since if you avoid Polearms, there's only 2 points left in the next tree, it's easy to fill up those two points, then back fill into sweeping strikes. If you value making your opponents run even slower, than Axes > Polearms.  If however you believe that putting points into other neglected, lower-tiered skills is more valuable, then this point is admittedly moot.

If you are pvping, there is no need to tank anything. Mainly because you don't need to raid for loot anymore. I say jump in with both feet. As for giving up a little on enrage, oh well. I'd rather do that then blow the cost of an epic mount on an inferior weapon.

Once again, the Horde getting yet another racial boost over the Alliance.

I've read some interesting posts from the priest forums, where they claim in MC, a properly specced Shaman can actually be just as good a healer as a Priest.  http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-priest&t=216998&p=1&tmp=1#post216998 However, as I recall the trade off is that a Shaman ends up getting a bite taken out of its effectiveness for PVP, much like Protection Spec warriors are. I imagine however, if Guild Leaders started telling their Shamans to change themselves into pure healbots, quite a few would tell the Guild Leader where to go.

If you are pvping, there is no need to tank anything. Mainly because you don't need to raid for loot anymore. I say jump in with both feet. As for giving up a little on enrage, oh well. I'd rather do that then blow the cost of an epic mount on an inferior weapon.

I've actually found that due to the fact that Warriors tend to be overwhelminging 31/20 in PVP, that taking a different build can really mess up people's strategies in group PVP.  I've been playing with a hybrid spec, since my guild enjoys PVP and the occasional PvE run (disclaimer, I'm on a PvE server). Because of that, my build is 13/11/27 (This would be why you've never seen me Mortal Strike you, Rasix). Basically what this means, is that I give up the chance of doing any quick burst damage, and instead do mediocre damage over time. On the other hand, I have a fair amount of HP/Armor, so my damage mitigation vs melee classes is solid.  In addition, I can throw out a few curveballs at the opposition.  I can silence them, I can stun them for 5 seconds using something other than charge/intercept, and I'm more likely to use disarm. I've found so far in Group PVP, not acting normally can really throw a player of their game. By no means do I stay in defensive stance, and I do admit that a weapon switch mod is nigh required, to swap from a 1h/shield weapon, to a 2H to take advantage of overpower, or to quickly take down something.

Is it inefficient from the perspective of just myself?  Perhaps. A lack of burst damage is very bad in PVP, and as a side effect, I'm very easy to take down in individual duels. On the other hand, the extras I bring to the table allow me to let the other people in my party live longer, and help them take advantage of the situation.

However, I totally agree with you about the cost of a reaper. I'd rather farm the materials by hand, and then just pay the 50-75 gold creation fee. If we were factoring in the 800-900G cost of the Reaper, I'd say I'd go with the Polearm, hands down.

I bought a reaper, and it rocks.  However, I don't think know it contains 800gp worth of "roxxor" vs a doomsaw or a dreadforge retaliator.  If I had it to do over again, I probably would have spend my money on an epic mount and picked up a dfr  (I'm a warrior who has bounced between 31-20 and 31-5-15 builds).  I haven't done the math, but it looks like the spear is in the same league as the dfr and the saw.
