Heya, everyone. Hope everyone's as full of piss and vinegar as ever. ;) Anyway, I only come around when I want something. Er, I mean, I'm here to give you something. We're doing a free trial server for Meridian 59. For the month of June you can go play my game for free. Just head to http://www.meridian59.com/M59-Trial-Signup.php and enter your email. (We promise not to sell it, no matter how bad the crack addictions get.) Anyway, I'll be on there occasionally, so feel free to give a hearty "Fuck you, Psychochild!" in a tell. I'll ban you then, but you'll have gotten your lick in. ;) Plus, I have my own blog these days. http://blog.psychochild.org/ where I rant about things like I did in the olden days. Wish I had the time to come bitch with you guys, but other business demands my attention these days. Anyway, have fun. :)

Thanks for the invite. I had fun with M59 last year when I tried it out and if work slows down, hope to try it out again. Anymore red sky frenzy times? Btw, that is the first time I got a taste for pvp and actually liked it. :)

The last time you had an open session to the game I couldn't get it to run in anything but 320x200 or so. 10 minutes of fiddling did not solve my problems so that was it.

Pyschochild, why do you torture yourself like this? Why sacrafice your career for this dead-end game? I, for one, would like to see what you could do as part a modern and funded MMOG project.

If he's making money and enjoying it, why do you have to rain on his parade? You know, not everyone is out there to make as much money as they can before they die.

I started a character named Dace. I'm on a quest for pants.
Also, I forgot how spooky 2.5D is.

Reading the linked M59 fansite forums, Server 101 is apparently the place to go for the full game, sporting a max concurrent population of around 40. I'm not sure what the size of the M59 world is or how a new character compares with a vet in PvP or PvE in terms of meaningful interaction, so its hard to put those numbers in context. Server 102 is described as "dead."
There also seems to be quite a few accusations of "cheating" going on, tho theres nothing specific (macros/bots, hacking, duping, etc?) in the threads I skimmed.

If he's holding a parade for M59, he's more than a bit delusional. My message has nothing to do with money other than the side reference to the fact that there are more oppotunities working with well-funded projects than flat-lining projects. It was an admirable attempt to restart the heart of M59, but its time to call the time of death and move on to the next patient.

I was all set to play until I got to the part about, "set up payment options."
I don't want to do that for a free trial. I know it's all the rage, but still.

I agree. There's no reason to make people jump through that hoop for a free trial.

Eh? You put your email address into the site he linked to, you read the resultant email from NDS for your password, you log on.

I did that, and had to choose a payment option in order to continue.

Buncha replies, in no particular order. Paelos: sure. Here you go: fuck you. Happy now? Anyway, M59 is still a great game. I guess the "shiney-of-the-moment" crowd will never groove to it, but so be it. People that want to give it a serious chance will almost certainly enjoy it. The fact that a majority of people can't concentrate long enough to get past the graphics doesn't mean there's something wrong with the game. There was a messup with renewing my personal domain, so the blog is MIA for a little bit. Yeah, ironic that that strikes just as I post on here. Such is life. Anyway, most well-funded projects already have all the egos they need. Just ask just about any other online game developer and they'll tell you the truth, if they're drunk enough. My choices are to work on an innovative if outdated game, or work on a modern game with pursestrings controlled by someone who just wants to make another EQ clone. Choices, choices. I think I'll still with something that has a bit of innovation in it, even if most people won't understand. As for billing information, there shouldn't be anything requiring billing information. You sure you went to the Free Trial link and not the commercial signup page ( http://billing.neardeathstudios.com/)? Just enter your email right on the trial page ( http://www.meridian59.com/M59-Trial-Signup.php) and you'll be set up automatically. No billing info required. Try again, and send an email to help@neardeathstudios.com if you still have problems. Anyway, hope all the oldbies are doing well. :) Have fun,
