Why was I treated to 30 seconds of some fatass photocopying his butt cheeks then falling into the copier first?
Ummmm giant robot MMOFPS? Or just FPS? That looked like luv.
EDIT: I especially like the part where the one robot shoots the other robot DIRECTLY IN THE FACE.

I have to admit that even though I'm not a big fan of robot games, that looked fun to me, too. Sort of CoH kind of fun.

HAHAHAHA MSFT is going to be pissed! As owners of the FASA franchise and Halo. This looks great. "STYLISH ACTIONS" /emote robot_strut
Man NCSoft FTW. Seems like they are churning out great stuff these days.
Every person who ever saw any anime will give this a try

This game looks pretty damn cool. I'd check it out for a few months at least. Ummmm giant robot MMOFPS? Or just FPS? That looked like luv.

Or MMORPG? Signe mentioned CoH and it LOOKS like CoH but with robots to me. The part where they were introing the robot types seemed to tie-in with CoH mechanics of Tank (Defend Guard), Ranged DPS (Thunder Assult), Melee DPS (Knight Saver) I'd appreciate an FPS more, but a robot game also seems to lend it self to the upgrades/ trick-out mechanics of an RPG. Why was I treated to 30 seconds of some fatass photocopying his butt cheeks then falling into the copier first?
Um, because you didn't download it first? Places that stream vids like popping commercials in front of them these days. Yay more adspace!

From Gamespot: A large part of the game will be its character customization aspect. As there are no organic beings, you will focus on creating and customizing your robot to your heart's content. The look of the robots we've seen thus far is reminiscent of the sorts of giant robots you'd find in a Gundam movie. Apart from customizing their appearance, you will be able to customize unique combinations of special abilities and create your own weaponry.
The action of the game promises to be modeled after the sorts of crazy, high-flying fare you'd see in a typical Hong Kong action flick. Therefore, the robots will be designed to be agile and quick, rather than the sorts of clunky mechs you might find in other robot action games. You'll be able to engage in individual deathmatches, team up with up to seven other players for mission-based combat, or get into large-scale platoon warfare for up to 64 players in all.

Looks cool. And considering Gundam Online either folded or has decided the US isn't worth the effort we need some sort of robot game online.

Heh, you should have seen my Gundam faboi coworker's reaction to that - priceless.
Now the question is how will it compare to Front Mission Online?
EDIT: Observation: No Healer or Support classes, meaning either they all can do a little bit of it, or there is none. This is either brilliance or idiodicy, but given how many groups I've lost or failed to form due to lack of a healer I fully intend to give them the benefit of the doubt.

The best part of SWG was the easy account cancellation process.
|
I swear I've seen some of those areas already.... in CoH.
In fact, it looks alot like CoH's engine with robot models.
This is not a bad thing.

As long as there are motherfucking inventories and you can get out of the robot. Oh man. Oh man. I just can't handle these thoughts.

A little more info on the game: http://www1.gamespot.com/pc/action/exteel/preview_6124573.htmlI really hope they make this game available outside Asia. And while Lineage I/II may get a lot of hate here I'm glad they are doing well enough for NCSoft to fund the development of other online games like this one. Now the question is how will it compare to Front Mission Online?
Very good question given how similiar the weapons look between the two games. My dream robot game would be something like an MMO MechWarrior with a persistent galaxy battle where you fight over control of planets. Some people made up their own version of this sort of thing back in the early days of online gaming with MechWarrior 2 which was incredibly fun though as you can imagine a PITA to organize. And none of these wimpy dumbed down FPS style controls either -- I want the full HOTAS/rudder pedal setup like I used for MW2.

The concept is alot cooler than this game looks.
Somewhere, there's an 3D artist who decided to have the mechs in this game hold their guns sideways while they shoot. Please, find and bitchslap this man.

But what if they are gangsta robots? How can they proove themselves in their mechanized hood if they can't bust a cap off in true gangsta style?

Well at least with robots you can in theory design the arms to handle the recoil firing at any angle. For a spoof on the "gangsta" sideways shooting style check out this article: http://www.recoilmag.com/news/new_gangsta_trend_0902.html

Thats so sad its funny. Odds are good they stole that from the climactic scene in The Bourne Identity, which came out late spring/early summer that year if memory serves.

NCSoft has their own engine team, and although they don't seem to absolutely demand you use it, they make it attractive enough you'd need a really compelling reason not to. So it is the same engine as CoH, with robot models, in all likelihood. --Dave

Just imagining sharing control of a character with 3-4 other human beings gives me the shivers. Grouping with other people on different characters is bad enough as it is.

I could see a simple 3 person team working with little trouble. 1 for mech movement, 1 for weapons control, and 1 for systems control (damage repair/sheilds/etc.) I think it'd be similar to today's formulae (which is maybe why it's a bad idea - I have many of those), just that all 3 would technically be geographically togethor instead of tanks in front, druids/clerics in the middle, and wizzies in the rear. Which from what I understand is where wizzies like it to begin with. Hope there's no wizzies 'round here....

You'd have to make moving pretty fucking fun in order to get someone to agree to just do that. You'd probably just end up with 3 people wanting to work the weapons. Group looking for someone to Form Feet and Legs!

Exteel is being made completely in Korea.
Which means it's probably got nothing to do with City of Heroes. I'll get you all info as soon as it's gotten to me.
Obligatory ^_^.

The good South Korea or the bad South Korea? Because in my mind games as distinctive and fun as Gunbound could not possibly come from the same small hyper-urbanized country as Lineage 2.

"KJ" in addition to being a huge megalomaniac is also a huge Gundam fan. The unannanounced secret of Exteel is that there's an end boss that's a huge Mechanized KJI that pwnz j00 h4rdc0r3, baby.

Definite CoHy look, but it's not the CoH engine. I liked the console feel, especially the boss ship at the end.

And here I was thinking nobody'd remember it.
Having the 'Patron St. of Elf Boobs' (Keith Parkinson, designer of EQ's Firiona "Elf in Bondage" Vie as my avatar for Douchebag week left me missing it.

I just want to trademark the use of a "war-torn world" as the setting for MMOG's and any online multiplayer games. I think were I to do that, I'd never have to work again.

Ummm, from the gamespot quote up above this game isn't really looking like massive multiplayer. They mentioned up to 64 players, so it might work like guildwars, or diablo, or phantasy star online? If there is even leveling in the game at all. It would probably make the most sense to drop experience and just use money instead with the better parts costing more. Then a ladder ranking system of some type to give 'level' assuming it is an action game which it looks like.
It does not look like rpg style combat, but it could be a very early build. Strafing does not work in most rpg games (I think neocron and AC1 are exceptions) for instance, and I saw no evidence of the lasers bending to hit the target that most of the rpg games have.
They also said in that quoted blurb that there were no biological lifeforms, so no leaving your mech, Schild. Heck, we don't even know if there is a human in those things, could be just advanced cybernetics with nothing left but a brain or they could be remotes.
The game looks like it might be a fun diversion, but it does not look like it is the mech game that I want at all.

Did that Mechwarrior online campaign thing for XBL ever work out well? If it wasn't for the M$ hate + lack of time for console gaming I would have eaten it up if it didn't suck total ass.
