Not really, but....
Depending on your client, perhaps, it should be "mput *".
WinXP ftp should be started in cmd like "ftp -i" so that when you do "mput *" it does not ask for confirmation.
Sometimes compressing compressed things makes them bigger.

I can go you one better. Had a user send in screenshot of an error (at my request) yesterday. However, the screenshot she sent in was of the word doc that she had pasted the error screenshot into to send to me. We had a hearty chuckle (things get kind of boring here at the Help Desk  :-D ).

Back on the subject of displaying the fruits of your photographic labor on teh Intarweb, another way to make things easy on the reader is thumbnailing.  It might seem counterintuitive that putting extra data on your website will save on bandwidth, but it does because people no longer have to download each full-sized picture to see them all.  I actually wrote my own thumbnailer a while back because I have family members on dialup who were finding it painful to click through all of my high-resolution photos.

I'm using SecureFX, because it's free and it's what I've used for years.

It only lets me do 1 file at a time.

60+ individual uploads in a row? No thanks.

You should WANT to look at all of them, anyway.

Somehow I don't think there are 60 people on this site all at once looking at your pictures.

No, he means that when he's uploading his pictures, he'd have to upload them one at a time if he didn't do the ZIP thing.

I'm fairly certain that this assertion is patently ridiculous, since it seems like the software in question is meant to allow you to mirror entire directories of files automatically.  It'd be pretty hard to do that if you had to upload each file individually.

(edit) From what I'm seeing, now that I poke around their site a bit more, it looks like you could set this thing up to run on your laptop (or whatever) and just automatically upload your pictures to your website as soon as they're retrieved from the camera.  Depending on how your camera interfaces with a PC, you might even be able to get it so that as soon as you plug the camera in, it automatically uploads right from the camera without any intermediate step.

But if it's "easier" to put everything in a ZIP file I guess that's cool too.   wink

I have no fucking idea. I don't know shit about web design or FTP's really, I just know how to use a few narrow functions to get done what needs to be...done.

Strazos is not going to do that. He's on vacation in fucking Rome. Run, Strazos! Spread your wings and flyyyyyy!

Heh, yeah, seriously....
I'm not really doing this for you people, it's mostly so my family can see the shit back at home, and so I don't have to buy umpteen memory cards to store all the photos. Just upload and wipe.

If no one else were to look at them, oh well...less criticism that way.

Oh yeah, pretty sure I passed the midterm for my Art class. Everyone else studied their asses off like....assclowns, while I did my usual thing.

Which was the "Do Nothing and WIN" technique. It involves lots of gaming and slacking. In this instance, I have simply substituted sleeping for gaming.

So you've been using this software for two years, but never found out about what seems to be its primary feature (namely, moving lots of files back and forth in an efficient and secure fashion)?

No more snarky comments from you about how we work with computers and should be able to figure things out, kthx.   :-D

Woah, this thing has "Drag and Drop" functionality?

I've never tried to drag between the two windows before, as they are usually behind each other when I am connected. Also, I've never had to do massive moves before; usually only 1 or 2 files at a time.

Hehe....oops.

In my defense, my school, through whom I get the software for free, doesn't give out these little nuggets of info to anyone.

EDIT: In light of this new finding, I will now have available all photos both individually and as a .zip.

Just for those of you who are wondering...

You don't find many pictures with myself included because honestly, I hate having my picture taken.

You don't see many with me And other people because when a group wants a picture taken, I usually take it myself. I don't jump in and get a copy for myself because, really, I'll probably forget about them all in about 3 months anyway. Or at the very least I'll lose contact with them.

 undecided

EDIT: Oh yeah, I don't naturally smile in pictures. Smiling is for suckers not for me.

You'll be even more amused to know that I am just plain not good with Windows, then.  I managed to get it running pretty well after a lot of tweaking, but it's just a matter of time before something weird happens and I have to reinstall it.  However, even I know how to use the command-line ftp client to send multiple files.

Then you obviously arn't using it hard enough.  Someone rustle up a few choice proggies for him - I'm thinking the Ruins of Myth Drannor remake, unpatched.  Maybe my old ATi card and some classic ATI drivers if I'm feeling unusually vindictive.
