"Poop on Ryan Seacrest's Star" Contest
May 18, 2005

It was a good day for Ryan Seacrest on April 20th. That's the day he got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, joining such showbiz immortals as Humphrey Bogart, Bob Hope and Bugs Bunny.

But not everybody is celebrating. An anonymous internet blogger who calls himself "Assistant Atlas" is running a contest to "Poop on Ryan Seacrest's Star." On his website, "Assistant Atlas" urges contestants to defecate on Seacrest's star for a prize of about $50.

"Assistant Atlas" phoned in to Los Angeles radio station KROQ-FM on Monday, to promote the contest and explain the rules. "Homeless people, dogs, cats, not allowed," he said. "It's gotta be you. This is cosmic justice, people."

On his website, Assistant Atlas claims to be one of Hollywood's many anonymous assistants who make the calls, schedule the meetings and generally carry the weight of the world on their shoulders.

But there's a problem with the plan: defecating in public is illegal in Los Angeles. The City Council voted unanimously to pass the ordinance several years ago. Offenders can be fined up to $1000 and spend six months in jail.

On his website, Assistant Atlas suggests using a "getaway driver" and wearing a "ski mask" for pictures, which he promises to post on his website. And there's an escape clause for the squeamish. According to the website, you don't have to "do the deed" in public, you can merely dump a "bag of business" on Seacrest's star.

When "CJ" scoped out Ryan Seacrest's star on Hollywood Boulevard on Wednesday, it was clean: no sign of any official contest entry.

For $50, I'd shit in a box and drop it on the star. And I wouldn't feel the least bit guilty about it.
