It looks like Charlie's at least going to beat the holy piss out of him next episode.

I'll say! That was beautiful. I almost wet my pants when he mentioned a "pussified shootin' instrument of some kind". God I love the dialogue on that show.

Deadwood owns me. :) I still haven't watched the first season, but the second season, even though I'm confused about some relationships and over-arching story (the Yankton stuff, mostly), it's still just flat beautiful. I've never heard a more literary use of the word cocksucker in my life.

I always die laughing when swearangon and that chinese guy start trying to talk together. A whole conversation using different intonations of the word cocksucker amuses the hell out of me.

COCK-SUCKERS!

TWO... THERE WERE TWO COCK-SUCKERS!

TWO... TWO COCKSUCKERS! SWERN-GEN, TWO COCK-SUCKERS!

As a conoisseur of profanity, I revel in this show.

I've got the first season BT'ed, I'm just trying to make it through Carnivale's second season before starting on DW's first. The move has put a serious crimp in my television viewing and game playing.

EDIT: Because spelling connoisseur without a dictionary's help is not a good idea.

I watch both carnival and deadwood and I have to say I enjoy deadwood alot more. I like carnival but sometimes it goes from interesting to just plain weird. I also missed some key episodes in carnival so alot of what happened was only vaguely making sense to me.

Here's another interaction between Al and Wu courtesy of televisionwithoutpity:

Quote
In Al's office, the time has finally come for Wu to get his meeting. He explains, in looks and gestures to his drawings, his concerns about the "San Francisco cocksucker [SFC]," Lee. Al tells him he needs to meet this SFC. Wu's mad and frustrated, and not getting it. "Swedgin?! Cocksuckah?! Meet?!" Yeah, Al tells him, Swedgin's got to meet the cocksucker, to see "how much juice he's got behind him." Wu: "JEWS?!" He jumps up, pointing out the window across the thoroughfare to the hardware store, pantomiming that he has a big nose. Al puts his head in his hands. "No, no, no, Wu. No Jews. Forget Jews!" Wu: "NO JEWS?! No Swedgin, no San Francisco cocksucker, no Jew!" He puts his first two fingers together like you do to indicate that you're tight with someone, saying, "Swedgin! Wu! Hang di!" Shaking his head, Al agrees. "Wu and Swedgin, hang di." I have no idea how to find out what "hang di" means, or even how to spell it, so I'm just gonna say it means "BeFri."

Wu kicks ass.  I hope they have some sort of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon action between Wu and Lee.  The possibility of a full scale asian gang war between Wu's posse and the Tongs has great potential.  I have a feeling this season's going to end with a roar.

I like how the Widow Garret and Ellsworth have really emerged as full characters,  and forces to be reckoned with.  Both were pretty weak during season 1.  Now Garret is plotting with the best of them....

Swearengen makes the Shakespear stuff WORK.  He can pull off a monologue (or soliliquy?  dammit...) to a piece of mail and make it great TV.

The best part?  Watching some History channel show a few months ago,  they mentioned a few other famous Western figures that stumbled into Deadwood.....   Bat Masterson should be showing up some day soon.

I got to hand it to HBO....  they really know how to rip off ideas.  Just like Sopranos was basically a serialization of Goodfellas,  Deadwood is a few parts Unforgiven, with a dash of Tombstone thrown in.

And yes,  Powers Boothe is an evil, evil cocksucker....

Oooh, late to this thread! Love Deadwood, best show on tv imo. Much of it is for the same reasons Hammy gives as a cunny sewer of swearology, Swearingen is a master (and I totally agree with his excellent monologues). And such a great character, you can totally see where his nasty nature comes from, with the incompetents he's stuck with (though his right hand cat is probably the best right hand guy in town barring Charlie Utter...and I'm worried about ol' chuck these days...).

Wu is also one of my favorite characters. More than just Al's willingness to try to communicate, I get a laugh out of Al's henchmen's total non-understanding. When Al was laid up and Wu came in to tell them about the San Francisco cocksucker and the henchmen start rolling their eyes when he does the 'COCKSUCKER!' routine. And then the more recent dialogue outlined in the quote above, with the Jew misunderstanding, hilarious.

I also agree the Widow is coming along nicely, character-wise. Natural given the shit she's already been through, but it'd be easy for a show to not reflect that. I like how the Mayor (great casting as usual) thinks she's a whore, based on the single (hilarious) liason with Bullock.

Great casting, great dialogue (I find myself sometimes using their more formal language, it's fun), great characters. Love the show. Love my DVR and my HD recordings of this entire season, too :) Even with Widow Garrett's pit hair being almost a foot across :p

To sum up since I'm new to the thread, shows I watch regular-like:

Deadwood (HD)
Smallville (HD, back to back, about a season behind)
Stargate SG-1
Stargate Atlantis
Penn & Teller's Bullshit (HD)

C'mon SciFi HD!!!

I am liking the new season a lot more now that Al is saying more than "AAGGGGHHHHHH."  Solid ensamble cast, but he really makes that show tick.

This post makes me want to squeeze into my badass red jeans.

I don't know how many people have high-def tvs, but one of the HD stations (InHD iirc) is airing the Enron movie (the smartest guys in the room) that's about to debut in theaters tonight. Just a heads-up, I like this new innovation, they plan on doing it several times a year, airing movies on their release day. Cool beans, almost makes me feel ok about my $140 cable bill. Almost.

I loved Al's soliloqy talking to the decapitated head of a "Dirt Worshiper" before going to see Utter and his inability to not speak without cursing when talking to Garrett. Great stuff.

So anyone want to put down odds on Shane surviving this season after last night's episode?

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

I can only hope - they have done a good job of making you hate him.  But Vik is such a softy I'm sure they will have a heartfelt exchange. Or he would pop a cap in his ass - I mean Vik can't let him turn him in for all the bad things he's done.

I'd say he's got a one-in-some large number-chance of surviving. I was hoping Mackie was gonna take him out, but then Shane blubbers and pulls the ol' "Aw, gawrsh Vic! I need you!"

More like redneckly stupid. I keep expecting him to get capped just for being a dumbass. I'm thinking either him, Armee or Lem buys it by the end of the season.

Anthony Anderson, though, is pulling off a great villain performance.

Stephen Colbert to star in new show.

This should be fucking hysterical. More good news at the end of the article- Adam Carolla will have a show as well. Although he is much better at improv than anything prewritten, so we shall see.
