They are back, with nary a blip in quality.  Let he who is without sin....kick the first ass.

Also, American Dad didn't impress me.  The side characters (the gay alien and the german fish) seemed awkward and contrived.  How much mileage can you get out of a character that can't even leave the fishbowl?  Its a useless plot tack.  And does the show really need three gay stereotype characters?  I predict an early exit for this series.

Give Seth a few weeks. You should go back and watch the first few Family Guy episodes. Short of a couple TV scenes and the Kool-Aid man, the episodes were trash.

That trash was still better than the two American Dad bits I've seen.

Family Guy still had Brian and Stewie, even if they weren't as developed at that point.  American Dad?  Nothing.

Thank you. Got a few chuckles out of me the first time around, I guess. But it's not "all that".

I will hereby derail the thread and pimp out the Venture Brothers and ATHF. Hell, even Robot Chicken.

Edit: Actually....I'm sorry. That wasn't nice.

Episode was cool except I was hurrying (while only wearing socks) to get to the TV to see the start and totally wiped out on my hardwood floor. Crashed into a door, banged my knee and I think I broke my toe.  So I missed the intro.  undecided

This is like Bart missing the episode of Itchy and Scratchy where the cat finally kills the mouse.  Find some way to watch it, it really was a hilarious swipe at Fox.

Any thoughts on who you can sue for that little mishap?  The door manufacturer or the hardwood floor manufacturer? Or maybe it was the socks? wink

This episode was out a week or two ago on the net. I'm still upset that I ruined it for myself and watched it last week. Oh well, at least Bourne Identity was on.

Family Guy is the new Simpsons for me.  Damn glad Fox renewed it.  Peter attaching his nipples to a battery ... priceless.

The gay alien and the german fish seemed contrived? HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT?

Ha ha, I've never even seen this show, but that quote delivers some great unintentional humor.

Pity me.  I had to be up at 4 AM this morning, crashed at around 4 PM, and just now woke up.   :-(  Hopefully there's a recording out there somewhere...

For those who missed it I believe Cartoon Network is reairing them either later in the week or a couple of weeks after they show up on Fox.

It was awesome. Even the Simpson's episode with fat Bart was funny. The guest start thing killed it though. Nobody likes Ray.

I caught most of Family Guy, and yeah, the quality is still there. The Pinocchio bit was just cringe-inducing funny. "You can lie, you might get away with it this time." Wrongness to the extreme.

American Dad... /meh. It does feel contrived. There were a few good bits, but lots of gay jokes and the two weird characters aren't funny.

On a sad note, Sealab 2021 is no more as of last week. No new shows. But they are doing new Venture Bros. and Harvey Birdman, so I can console myself with that.

That sucks. Hopefully they will come out with all the (newer) episodes on DVD soon.

Adult Swim is odd, they did a bump about how they had killed Sealab and Space Ghost but that it was for the viewer's own good.

Its sort of like when they laugh about how they fuck with the schedual every 3 weeks just to be dicks.  Must be nice being the only game in town...

Yeah I hate that too.  But I'm torn.  I have so much  cockpheasant rage  over the current media system and corporate entities that a part of me likes it when a smallfry like Cartoon Network changes something just because they can.  It's like giving the big middle finger to The Man.

Of course, I bitch about it like anyone else when my shows get moved around ...

I'm not sure how to feel about Sealab.  For a while there, the quality was dropping... but then they pulled it back out (with the Whale Cancer episode and also with Quinn and Stormy being trapped in the cave with the shark outside).  I don't know if the quality was going to drop back down or not, maybe they made a good move.

I'm surprised about new Venture Bros. cartoons.  Since, you know... they killed off the Venture Bros.

In the last one ehy were riding some motor-cycle type things that exploded. But whatever, they can always explain it away and the brothers were the worst part of the show anyway. I think it would be funny to keep calling it the same thing but let them stay dead.

The last episode of the season....  Return to Spider-skull Island, I think.

I'm assuming the boys are actually clones or something,  based on the complete lack of concern of Dr. Venture & Brock.  And the fact that Dr. Venture told Brock to grab their clothes.

Sealab has definitely been in the decline since they lost Murphy.  Shanks is just not a great main character,  and most of the rest only work well when combined with Murphy or Quinn.

We'll always have the Bizarro episode, though.

Hmm I'll have to see it again, I don't remember that. I tried to download it tonight via bittorrent but no one was seeding it. I'll have to try again tomorrow.

Sealab can be hilarious or just dumb. The one where the power goes out is great .. the whole episode is done mostly with audio. Bizarro is just.. bizarre. The one where Quinn and the-dumb-one (what's his face? Stormy?) switch brains is hilarious. The one where Quinn replaces everyone's brains with mice (because they wanted to be robots with guns for hands and retracting robot-boobs) is one of my favorite. Hehe, I'm laughing just thinking about it.

The two Venture Bros. kids are clones. They've dropped lots of little hints throughout the whole show, such as never knowing who their mom is, the fact that they sleep in little modules that teach them in their dreams. When Dean had the testicular thing, Dr. Venture was commenting how he could have fixed this in the prototype stage, and of course, when they died, he told Brock to get their clothes. I suppose that was a way they could get out of the ending if the 6 episodes did well.

Of course, the great thing about Adult Swim is that the shows really don't need continuity. I mean, Aqua Teen doesn't suffer from the fact that each episode really has little to do with the other episodes, other than some occasional recurring characters like MC Pee Pants and the Mooninites. Sealab got blown up every week.

Shanks isn't as good a character as Murphy, but I thought it was cool that the voice was done by Harry Goz's (the voice of Murphy) son. Quinn is obviously the heart of the series. The last season was pretty high on quality. The Indian casino episode and the shark cave were particularly good.

Damnit I completely missed it due to killing my brain cells Sunday (IE heavy drinking).  Guess I will attempt to locate it on the intardnet or catch a re-run of it later :(

Quinn is the heart,  yes.  He's the one character who is fairly normal and believable,  and makes a natural sympathetic point of view for the viewers.  Murphy was the bare-knuckle insanity that made the show work, though.  Whether he was pining after his Tastee Cake oven or declaring Martian Law.

Erik Estrada and Brett Butler (that is Debbie, right?) worked well as side characters,  but really not too well as mains.  Except for Debbie's biological clock episode.

Bizarro-Murphy: "Bizarro-Stormy, show them how serious we are!"
<Bizarro-Stormy blows his own head off>
Debbie to regular Stormy:  "Why don't you show them how serious we are?"

By the way,  exactly how many characters on Venture Bros (and Adult Swim) does Stephen Colbert voice?  He seems to pop up multiple times an evening, from show to show

His real name is Ted Hitler.  So look for him in the credits.

I think Brett Butler is actually voicing Quinn. Debbie is voiced by Kate Miller.

According to IMDB, the only voice Colbert has done on Venture Bros. is Professor Impossible. He also does the voice of Harvey Birdman's boss Phil. And is hilarious.
