Sony Online confirms new MMO project.

"We know what we're doing now, and we're going to take it to the next level," SOE president John Smedley told CNN Money's Chris Morris in Morris' Game Over article. "We're always looking for the right idea and we didn't have it [with Sovereign]," he said. "We will be in the strategy market. It's just a matter of timing. We'll get it eventually. Our goal is to be the dominant player in every major genre."

The new MMO game should be shown at E3.

Sony Online has previously worked on EverQuest, EverQuest II, Star Wars Galaxies and Planetsides, all MMO games for the PC. The company has also released some EverQuest-branded hack-and-slash games for the PS2. Most recently, Sony Online shipped Untold Legends, an action-RPG, for PSP.

Anyone have any info on this title?  This made me chuckle, which is ironic since it was free and I'm not used to getting anything funny (free or otherwise) from SOE

No inside secrets here, but it is good to see an evil empire that isn't afraid to aim for the top.

I doubt he'll be seeing any crossover from SWG players after using the long hard shaft called the CURB.

Since SoE is proving so adept at breaking taboos with their /pizza and /sellmypharmedloot features, why don't they go ahead and reach for the stars, go full hog for the true MMO Lowest Common Denominator?  In fact they could create a whole new MMLCD genre...

- Vegas Online!  Become a level 75 Playboy Swinger, mastering all of the tricks of Las Vegas.  The game's evil arch-villain/hero will be acted and narrated by Dennis Rodman, with a soundtrack from Wayne Newton.   SoE will integrate cutting-edge online gambling into the game, utilizing their Bahama-based subsidiary.  With credit card age verification, you will unlock the naughty bits along with the real-money gambling!  But never fear, if you are under 18 you can win ladder tournaments until you reach the magic age, when you can instantly switch to real cash!
- Price is Right Online!  Level by mastering a variety of delightful games involving wheels and hidden prices, qualify for real-money ladder tournaments (with age verification), and get to spend it all shopping online in the built-in mall!  Very scantily clad showgirls will introduce the phat lootz, helping make this game popular with teenage boys not just middle-age women.
- Hunting Online!  Work your way up from shooting frogs and small rodents, until you can tackle the big game of Africa!  Only then can you face the hardest prey of all -- your fellow hunters.  Yes, once you hit a certain level, you are transported to a hyper-realistic Lord of the Flies island, where anything goes.
- Vin Diesel Online!   Can you even hope to approach the feats of Riddick himself?  Play and find out!  Losers need not apply.

Oh, the possibilities...

Since we've been talking about Indy Dev studios in another thread or two, here's a game to look at:
