TRAFFORD, Ala. (AP) — A brother and sister were arrested on felony incest charges after the man's wife called sheriff's deputies, who allegedly caught the siblings having sex.

Ronald Stewart Howze, 44, of Trafford, and Lori Ann Rotton, 41, of Smyrna, Ga., were arrested around midnight on April 7, said Jefferson County sheriff's spokesman Randy Christian. They remain jailed Wednesday with bond set at $50,000 each. If convicted, Howze and Rotton could each be sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Authorities said Howze's wife believed her husband and his sister were having sex so she called deputies. The wife let the officer into their trailer home, and the deputy saw the siblings having sex in a bedroom, Christian said. The officer had to twice tell the couple to stop, and the officer's report quoted the man as saying "I guess I'm going to jail" after they finally complied, according to Christian.

Both brother and sister had been drinking, and Rotton was initially taken to a hospital because she appeared so intoxicated, Christian said. The man told the officer he wanted to "go out crazy" after being diagnosed with cancer, The Birmingham News reported Wednesday.

Tommy McFarland, an attorney representing Howze, said his client told him he could not remember what happened. Howze said he suffers from seizures and asked to see a psychiatrist, according to McFarland. Rotton is set to make her first court appearance Thursday.

Yeah and couple that with the fact that these people were in their own home (at least one was).  I have deep deep libertarian issues with that.

Incest is wrong, sure.  But I don't want the Sex Police walking around enforcing laws whose basis is in social taboo.  Those tax dollars would be better spent on healthcare, feeding starving people, enforcing corporate regulations, or any of a hundred other more pressing concerns instead of paying Joe Bob to make sure people's nether regions are being used in a government-approved manner.

Add in the fact that both are in their forties and, while I am repulsed, I agree that the cops should be focusing on other things. Incest taboos - in my mind anyway - are more to protect children and young adults.

I think it is one thing to prevent incest being forced upon minors. It is another thing to punish consenting adults for their conduct, as unseemly as it may be. 10 years is fucking ridiculous. A fine and a forced sterlization should be plenty..

Yeah, Ghastly is awesome.  I've known about him for years and years since I first accidentally came across some Pokemon porn he drew back in '98 and discovered he was a regular poster in a very wrong newsgroup called Alt.games.nintendo.pokemon.hentai. (Note, he's not named for the Pokemon but for his obviously sick and twisted humor.)

Hard hasn't stopped SL, according to his blog he's always had horribly bad pains in his hands that he can't get treated because the doctors apparently don't know what's up with them.  So he takes it easy and doesn't draw other than what he has to for his job when it flares-up.   Right now he's in the middle of moving so he's offline for at least a month as of the beginning of last month.  (Apparently it takes a while to get an ISP setup in Japan.)

Actually, he could probably be treated rather effectively by application of topical capsaicin. It's hot pepper extract that is pharmaceutical grade and has been effectively used to treat nerve disorders (like in patients with excrutiating shooting pains in their feet and whatnot). The y have to give an anaesthetic while the shit is on your skin, because it burns like hellfire, but it basically jams the circuits of the nervous system and can help relieve pain for long stretches of time. Someone should tell him about it.
