Skinny-dippin' in a sea of Lee, I'd propose on bended knee...

Quote from: ESPN.com news services
Bonds has ignored the advice of his lawyer

Going against the advice of his lawyer, San Francisco Giants outfielder Barry Bonds continues to train with long-time friend Greg Anderson as Bonds rehabs his knee, The San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Anderson is awaiting trial in the BALCO steroids case on charges of distributing performance-enhancing drugs to elite athletes.

Bonds' attorney, Michael Rains, said he's had several conversations with Bonds, telling the star outfielder to discontinue his training with Anderson.

"In the conservative world of legal advice, I have told Barry that it was probably better that he not have contact with Greg," Rains told the paper Friday in a telephone interview. "But I've had enough discussions with Barry to know what friendship means to him. He values his friendship with Greg and always has, as well as the training regimen Greg has given him."

Frustrated with his health and stressed out from the steroid controversy surrounding him, Bonds is on the 15-day disabled list as he recovers from two operations on his ailing right knee. Once he's healthy, he will resume his chase of Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron for the career home crown.

Two weeks ago, Bonds returned to the Bay Area from the team's Arizona training site and began rehab with a Giants trainer at SBC Park.

Shortly after that return, Bonds also resumed regular, early-morning weight training sessions with Anderson at a health club in Burlingame near the offices of BALCO, sources told The Chronicle. A Chronicle photographer witnessed Bonds entering the gym, called Bay Area Fitness, shortly after 7 a.m. Monday, the day before the Giants' season opener.

Asked about the workouts, Anderson's lawyer Anna Ling said, "We don't comment on Greg Anderson's clients, past or present. He is a very private person." The Giants didn't respond to a telephone request for comment.

Anderson and three other men associated with the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative were indicted on charges that include illegally distributing steroids, possession of human growth hormone, money laundering and misbranding drugs with intent to defraud. They have pleaded not guilty. A trial is set for Sept. 6.

Since the BALCO scandal broke, Bonds has denied using steroids and has defended Anderson, calling him a "wonderful person, a very, very giving person" and saying, "To me, a man is innocent until proven guilty."

It's been a long time since Barry had any real connection to the mundane reality of the rest of the world.

I agree with his point, but I don't think it's over racism. He's an idiot for throwing that out there. People really don't care that baseball and hockey both farm players before college, but I think that's due to the fact that they seem to publicly handle themselves better than the NBA dumbasses. Here's a hint, stay on the court instead of IN the courts and this stuff won't happen.

Hockey and baseball minor leaguers also get paid dick. Part of the problem is the young kids coming straight out of high school with a $10 miillion contract. Most people just aren't mature enough to handle that kind of money and the possible problems it brings. I would have been a ginormous fucktard if someone handed me $10 million at that age, and I was probably in the 90th percentile for maturity/intelligence then.

O'Neal is a bit misguided. Maybe the age limit will encourage kids (black and white alike) to keep their grades up in high school and get into a college program instead of just banking on the fact that they will hit the NBA at 18. There are thousands of colleges, and only, what, just over 300 NBA jobs? If the reality was that they had NO CHOICE but to try to get into college, they would be better off for it.

Also- as a fan, I get sick and tired of seeing the quality of play deteriorate. For every LeBron James, there is a Darko, or a Kwame, or any number of other young guys who just weren't ready. Some of them develop into decent/good players (Rashard Lewis, for example...took him several years, though), while others never reach their potential. I firmly believe that even a couple of years of college ball to help cement some fundamentals would do wonders for the quality of play in the NBA.

Wha wha whaaaaaaaaaaaat???

I heard about this on the radio, and looking at his quotes, he IS a fucking moron. I see nothing, absolutely nothing about race having anything to do with restricting the age limit to join the NBA. Nothing. Unless he's trying to claim that by forcing high school kids into college for 2 years is racist because as we all know, colleges are only for white kids and most black kids cannot cut it in college. Or something equally stupid to say.

Hey, Jermaine. Why don't you go ask Jim Fucking Brown what racism is. When you pick your fucking teeth up, please, speak some more out of your stupid ass.

Actually, he needs to ask Maurice Clarett if age restrictions on sports leagues are constitutional.  Clarett might have some news for him.

My guess is that he sees it as an attempt to deny black kids coming out of high school a chance to earn a living in the NBA. I.e. he thinks of it as another way that "white men" are trying to "hold down" blacks.

Yes white men forcing black men to actually attempt to try and get an education instead of just stepping ass-backwards into the already stagnant pool of maturity that is the NBA is certainly racist. What's that black leaders? You say you want to empower the community? You want to uplift blacks to higher standings in society? HOW ABOUT YOU PULL YOU HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES AND REALIZE THESE NBA ASSWIPES ARE YOUTH ROLE MODELS. There is not a single player high school player in the NBA who's game and/or persona would not have improved with a minimum of two years in the college ranks.
