Really? Oh I hated it. I remember at the time thinking, "These have to be the worst graphics on the NES". And Stray totally has a game I forgot to mention: Blades of Steel.

(There's more, but why repeat?)

Because I'm tallying up the votes.  :-D  I'm writing reviews of old NES games for my new website, and it makes sense to do the most popular/infamous ones first, with particular attention spent on the worst games, because negative reviews are always more entertaining to read and write than fluff.  So far, I've covered Top Gun and Fester's Quest.  Deadly Towers is probably next in the works because, well, it's my third most hated NES game.  I forgot about TMNT -- another contender.

Bionic Commander was great fun. So was Metal Gear.

Kid Icarus was heavily played on my system.

I enjoyed PinBot as well.

Golgo 13 and Ninja Gaiden were both good.

As for bad? Hmm..

Darkman was bad. Karate Champ was also bad. Friday the 13th was worse.

Most Hated:
Deadly Towers

WTF was up with that game?  It looked all cool on the box, so my brother and I bought it, but it sucked really bad ass.  I just remember some balls bouncing around or some shit.  It looked like it could have been a game on the Atari 2600.  That's when Nintendo started to slip by letting shitty companies produce shitty games.

Well, at least that same trip to TRU got us Tecmo Bowl, which ruled.  I played the shit out of that game.  My main team was Chicago, even though I was gimped because I agreed to never throw "that pass" (you Tecmo people know what I'm talkin' about).  I still won most of the time.  I'd otherwise play New York because they had a bitchin' defense and a guy who could block PATs.

It sounds like you managed to block out the worst part of the game from your memory:  Invisible teleportation gates that constantly left you wondering where the fuck you were, and 95% of the time ending in your death.

I remember a screen shot of a cow on the box.  I think he was supposed to be a vicious demon or something.

Fav:
----
Metroid
Zelda (1)
Mario (all)
Final Fantasy
Dragon Warrior (all)
Life Force (I will never forget the +30 life code)
Dr. Mario
Archon
Star Tropics

Hated:
------
Golgo 13 (you LIKED this one???)
Top Gun
the Power Glove (ok, not a game... but this sucked)

There were others that were good, just not great, but were neat in their own right:
----
Snake, Rattle 'n Roll
Marble Madness
Gauntlet
A Boy and His Blob

I thought Castlevania was a great franchise that had tons of potential (I want them to do more with this for the GC), but didn't like the controls for NES.  Didn't care for it.

Super Mario Bros. 3 (It honed my hatred of platform games to a fine, sharp point)

But what do I know, I never owned an NES. I didn't get a console besides the 2600 until my Sega Genesis. I grew up on PC games and the arcades.

Baseball Stars (Turning the team of nobody's into stars... classic)

Hate

Master Blaster (because there wasn't even a password/code to get you back to where you died.  I must have spent DAYS on this game before I finished it)
Top Gun (pure flying shit)
Who framed Roger Rabbit
Friday the 13th (was there a point to this turd?)
Duck Hunt (That dog can burn in electronic hell for the rest of eternity)

I enjoyed Maniac Mansion just because I didn't have a real computer at that age, so it let me enjoy Ron Gilbert's genius when I otherwise wouldn't have been able to. Graphics were terrible though. ugh!

Truly, you cannot discuss Pro Wrestling without invoking Seanbaby's take.

As for the best titles on NES: Metroid, followed shortly by Zelda. I only rank Metroid higher because I spent more time at it.

The trick to Duck Hunt was to play it on a B&W television. No matter where you aim at the television, it registered as a hit.
