RICHMOND, Va. Mar 28, 2005 — The percentage of Virginians qualifying as obese is growing at a faster rate than anywhere else in the nation, according to a federal study.

The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System found that 23.7 percent of 1,027 Virginians surveyed by telephone qualified as obese. That's up from 9.9 percent of 170 respondents in 1990, and gives the state the nation's fastest growing waistline. ...

Obligatory mention of my suspicion of surveys. Though I guess asking 1000 people is a little better than asking 200.

I just conducted a survey that says most americans (90%) are between the ages of 3 and 5. Of course, I polled the auditorium next door where there is a children's activity class going on right now.

The qualifications for obesity are getting lower and lower while people are getting bigger and bigger. Our lifestyles demand it.
