A First Look at the title reveals what’s in store for number three...

Details on Soul Calibur III, the latest title in the popular weapon wielding fighting franchise, have today become apparent via a world Exclusive First Look in GamePro.

Claiming to be a Playstation2 exclusive, the game will feature three new characters, additional stages and more importantly the ability to create your own fighter and battle through the hordes in the World Champion mode.

Sadly online play looks doubtful at this stage; however we expect further details to become apparent shortly...

What does this mean?
1. No 4-player.
2. Probably same engine and reused graphics as it's not for the Xbox 360.
3. Everyone will recreate Mitsurugi and rename him.
4. My Xbox is crying.
5. All of the above.

I hate exclusivity shit on sequels. Particularly sequels to previously cross-platform games.

Man, it's for the PS2. Not like they need to revamp the engine for that pile.

This is also one game (SC2) I like to use to showcase the limits of the xbox to my friends who don't "get" why consoles are so limited and why I dislike them. It can do 480p widescreen fine (looks great for 480p, too). But then when you jack up to 720p, it can't run widescreen, the system simply can't handle it. Goddamned consoles.

I wish they'd make this for the pc with online support. My pc gamepad is as good as a PS2 controller. Actually, if I'm going to start with the wishing, I'd rather see this level of combat sophistication in a mmog. I always wanted my EQ monk to play like Konoko from Oni, with combos, weapons, true 4-way combat..."Voldo LFG!"

Soul Calibur 2 runs at 1080i 16x9 on my monitor. Yer scaler is broken, foo. Oh and it looks fantastic.

It runs in 720p. No scaler issues, my tv is 720p.

But it runs in a 4:3 pillarbox (opposite of letterbox for the non-hd folks in the crowd). That's what I meant by it can't do 720p /widescreen/. Technically, it's putting out a 16:9 image, but that image has pillars. I did note the game looks great in progressive scan. I'd hope so since it's only two characters in a tiny static environment!

If you are scaling 480p to 1080i, you're talking about something completely different. If you mean the 1080i image is truly 16x9, with the gameplay filling the entire screen, well, that's cool. I guess it also shows how much more horsepower 720p takes over 1080i. Interesting, if so. Like I said, a good game to show limitations of the hardware. Are we both talking xbox as well?

Love the game, wish it had online play since all my gaming friends moved to west bumfuck (I'm still in east bumfuck). One of the best titles on the xbox, imo. Just wish it were 720p widescreen ;)

I still play SC2 to this day, and I had it upon Xbox release. If M$ were smart, they'd throw Namco a few bucks to drop this exclusive bullshit. I love me SC nastiness....my love would know no bounds if I could create myself in the game.

I played it on the Gamecube.  Hell of a kicky fun game.
Friggin PS2.  It had the poopiest version of it.  Probably why its getting this one.  GASP people might not want their exclusive character to be a shirtless old man with funny hair over say a demonspawn from hell with an axe or Link from Legend of Zelda.  Shocking!

Xbox has spoiled the hell out of me. HDD loading and all the extra stuff.

GT4 for the PS2 was painful, but there are so many fanboys you'll never hear the bad things.

There's an 8 second load going from the main menu to the fucking options menu, for instance. Pathetic AI, since they spent all their processor power on shiny graphics, etc. Man I hate the ps2, but I really love the Logitech wheel for it.
