Two enterprising grifters have unveiled a plan to purchase an island in Fiji and turn it into an exclusive paradise for cryptobros. Exactly zero of that plan has been put into motion, but rest assured you can already buy NFTs from them to claim a parcel of land that isn't theirs to sell for $1.2M worth of Ethereum, which is actually comically low considering the volume they're working with.

If we're really good for Santa this year, Cryptoland might pick up enough momentum that someone will try to actually make this thing happen and we can watch it all fall apart, Fyre Festival-style. Most likely they'll take the money and run before then, but real popcorn value has already been delivered in the form of an eighteen-minute promotional video that is absolutely start-to-finish indistinguishable from satire. It is the hardest roast of the crypto community imaginable.

See it with commentary here.

This was linked in one of the replies to that Twitter thread about the "adventures" of a cruise ship sold to a group of cryptobros two years ago:

https://www.theguardian.com/news/2021/sep/07/disastrous-voyage-satoshi-cryptocurrency-cruise-ship-seassteading

I hadn't heard of this until reading the article.

Also similar to Br*ck Pi*rce and friends in Puerto Rico in 2018. Before he married an actual woman and ran for president.

Looking forward to the documentary about it. Was really entertained by the two Fyre Festival ones (apart from feeling sorry for the locals that where caught in it).

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail

Don't worry, socialism will get all the blame.

Because socialism already cratered the economy?

How are crypto miners going to move to Venezuela? The country can’t generate enough electricity to keep the lights on as it is now.

Yes. Venezuela isn't nearly as interesting as El Salvador, which had a not completely defunct economy and picked a young charismatic cryptobro to be president.

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation.

how do you allocate blame between rampant socialism, despotic dictators-in-all-but-name, petrodollar corruption, and being stuck next door to a 60 year long civil war?

Yes, I know I'm paranoid, but am I paranoid enough?

They gather on Telegram to let out howls of grief and short, sharp shrieks of pain. “Eeeeeeee!” yowls a young woman. “Waahahahah,” roars a man in a deep baritone. A third person wails like a baby. These are victims of the cryptocurrency bloodbath, 3,315 of whom have assembled in a “Bear Market Screaming Therapy Group” group to vent their anguish. “I had a few people lamenting and crying,” says the group’s founder, a 30-year-old cryptocurrency investor who gives only his first name, Giulio. “I decided not to ban them. I felt bad. They weren’t even able to scream any more. They were just sobbing.”

Dollars to donuts he's running that group to push great new "investments" to a pool of known marks.
