So, this was a post-apoc novel about a roving troupe of actors that roamed around the Great Lakes performing Shakespeare after superflu wiped out 99% of the population. Think “The Stand” without the grand battle for good and evil and more grounded.

The series does a good job of taking the best beats of the books and combining them with a more engrossing narrative about how we got from here to there and the journeys the survivors had to endure. The main character is a girl we meet at the beginning of the end who grows up to be both the most broken and the most resilient of all the survivors. It’s at turns ridiculous and deadly earnest. And it’s a damn good watch overall.

Tuned in, immediately get to watch cringey Ubisoft talking head offering her deepest sympathies to the families impacted by the Orlando shooting while flanked by a man in a giraffe suit and some sort of "horrifically garish neon costumes through the ages" exhibit or something.  We need to stop this fucking planet right now and sort some shit out. -Kail
