I, Robot trailerOk, I've no problem with Alex Proyas using the tenuous Issac Asimov connection for the title of his movie about robot killers. So let's not even have that nerd slap fight. But I challenge anyone to look at that trailer and not cringe. It makes me cringe, and I LIKE Will Smith's schtick. This one just seems like a whole lot of a his MIB character in a "more serious" movie, well, serious until you see the army of robots. I really hate it when movie trailers give away something like that, but it's pretty obvious there won't be much mystery to this movie.

I didn't cringe. It's the prequel to The Matrix. They just don't know it yet.

I think it looks like a great movie... it just won't have anything to do with any short story he wrote. :)
Contrast that with Bicentennial Man, which was fairly faithful to the story and yet was a somewhat dull movie despite Robin William's best efforts.

See, I'm no real fan of Will Smiths smug schtick, but I think it looks like one of the better action movies on the horizon. If I can manage to look past the source material (which I liked and respect for it's importance as a classic, but don't go back and reread because I also find Asimov to be somewhat longwinded and boring), then I can only hope that it will be one of the better sci-fi action movies if just a small part of Asimovs intelligence rubs of on the new story. God knows, intelligent action movies are far apart (and Will Smith stars in most of the stupid ones).

Regarding giving things away in trailers... The only alternative in this movie would have been to bill it as a murder mystery movie. Then people wanting to see a murder mystery would be pissed when it turned into an army of robots action flick. And those that want to see an action flick (much larger audience) would probably not see the movie based on the trailer alone.
So unfortunately the beginning of the movie will be pretty pointless setup for an ending we know is coming.

I have no problem with the lack of real connection with the Asimov stuff. I just think the trailer looks terrible, and can't quite put my finger on why. Maybe it's that it doesn't really look like an intelligent action movie.

If I want to watch CG baddies killing all humans, I'll watch Eight Legged Freaks again. At least the spiders don't have that super glossy skin effect like the stupid robots do.

Did anybody else notice that the beginning intro song for the trailer was a near exact rip off from the Run Lola Run soundtrack.
