I want the complexity offered in the SWG crafting and social environment, and also has a relatively large player base? I did the trial of ATiitD, and it was pretty cool, but it seems to be really hard to connect with other people (and the apparent lack of tools to gather resources more efficiently, like harvs). Low population? I am just hedging my bets on SWG, and wanted to take some time while we wait for the CU to check out some others.
WoW, from the little I hear, has a rather shallow crafting/econimic model. FF11, which I only spent a day in a trial? EQ2?

No other game besides SWG really fits your criteria. I guess EQ2 or UO would be the closest.

I'd give the sony all-access thingie a try. If I feel like EQ2 - I can play EQ2, if I want some frag action, I can play planetside, If I want to zip around in a spaceship and wait for the combat upgrade, I can log into SWG. Given the free content packs for EQ2, all access seems like a decent value right now.

FFXI is incredibly boring when it comes to crafting. Never, ever craft in that game.
Never played SWG here, so, how does it's crafting compare to... um, EQ?

At the risk of being labelled a Ringer fanboi, I'll recommend Puzzle Pirates, again. Its actual crafting system isn't that complex, but the economic system based on crafting and resource acquisition is much more complex (and fun) than in any other MMO I've seen. I played SWG for a year as a crafter, so I'm on pretty good ground to make the comparison - the SWG economy sucks balls by comparison, no matter what angle you look at it from.

Hello, you wouldn't know it from walking around. At least the server that I play on (Midnight). It feels more populated than SWG ever did, and I was on one of the more popular SWG servers - the difference is that in SWG most of the player population is spread out over hundreds of square miles of nothing, and all the "heavily populated" areas are filled with AFKbots and/or empty buildings.

Puzzle Pirates does have a relatively large player base when compared to overall land mass. At any given time when I log in to Puzzle Pirates, there are always lots (dozens) of other players around on the larger islands and many to be found on their ships pillaging the seas. I'll second the Puzzle Pirates recommendation. |

Doesn't Puzzle Pirates have something like 15,000 subscribers? Didn't the game cost something like $50,000? Hmmm, if it had the budget of WoW it would probably have 15,000,000,000,000,000 subscribers from here and every planet out to pluto.

Aren't you supposed to be in line to buy a PSP by now? I'm about to try and destroy the God of War if possible. Then I'm going to sleep. I'll try to get up for Call of Cthulhu. But Shockeye said he might not be able to make it. Anyway, so like, totally going to start camping for my friend at Best Buy around minutes. It's going to be the sweetest 30 degree thunderstorm ever. Then I'm going to pick up the one that's paid for and has been preordered since December for myself. ^_^ Preordering is a good thing. Perhaps the best of things. And no good thing ever dies. |
