Epic is doing their extra $10 off coupons thingy again on titles $14.99 or greater on top of their Holiday 2019 discounts. So there's some crazy good deals on there right now.

When Demon Souls 2 is an Epic Store exclusive I’m sure you’ll change your mind awesome, for real

That would make me buy a ps5 but not use the epic store. Besides, they're CLEARLY incapable of rebottling that lightning. They've tried five times.

Yeah but it’s a FromSoftware game — it’s not going to run at a stable frame rate on the PS5. You’re going to need a top end PC with a modded version of the software to do that.

I thought about downloading the Epic store again if only to play the now defunct Unreal game.

Then I came to my senses. GOG and Steam are enough

For a lot of us, that has very little to do with it. Hell, like 2 weeks ago I downloaded the itch.io launcher to play weird indie shit. Don't get me wrong, I don't want a bad store launcher sitting on my desktop or running in the background for shit I'll eventually get on Steam, but it's more about how Epic is treating games than anything else at this point.

This is less about the number of launchers and more about keeping actual fucking Chinese spyware off my computer. Or at least choosing how far down the rabbit hole I wish to fall with it.

It doesn't even need to get that far for me, though now that I'm thinking about it their behavior is very Chinese of them.

Riot is the one that stings. Also, PoE sucks. Just wanted to drop that in another thread.

Riot would have stung if this was about 2 years ago. After the abortion they made of LOL in season 8, not giving them my money anymore doesn't really hurt at all.

Also, the store exclusives and my general stance of "Fuck the Chinese government" is all the reason I need not to install the Epic store. I'd seriously rather give my money to Microsoft (and I do, thank you XBox game pass).

The thing that annoyed me about Epic was the astroturf campaign they ran a while back about how Steam was evil because they gave top sellers games a discount to be on their platform, and therefore you should boycott them and buy them off the Epic store instead because they charged smaller games five percent less than Steam did.  Unless you're an actual charity for indie game developers, fuck all the way off with that shit.

Its just price competition. And its good. Steam has stagnated and needs someone to kick them in the butt.

Its also a tad bit more than 5%. The Steam cut is 30% to 10m and then 25% to 50m and then 20% over 50m sales. The Epic Games cut is 12%. So for indies the epic store will net an indy over 25% more revenue per sale

Edit: its fine to not use the store if you’re concerned about spyware but the prce differential for developers is pretty significant

If they had just stuck with the lesser cut, it would've been somewhat tolerable. Also if they launched with as many features and presented some sort of actual reason to use both.

Instead they went with bribing devs to be exclusive. Fuck that.

They've also told indie devs they have to be exclusive to Epic or they won't have them on their store at all.
