I actually thought she was older than that. An absolute icon and one of the most influential female voices of the 20th century.

Well given she has been not doing well for awhile, I'm glad she doesn't have to continue to suffer. Pancreatic cancer man... not something you really live through.

Glad I was alive for most of her career to enjoy it, even more so that my mother was a huge fan. She as a person and a voice in society will be missed but her music and the messages therein will always continue.

edit: had to confirm the cancer thing

To quote Steely Dan..

Hey Nineteen
That's 'Retha Franklin
She don't remember
The Queen of Soul
It's hard times befallen
The Soul Survivors
She thinks I'm crazy
But I'm just growing old

Her funeral service was apparently 8 hours long.  I don't care if you're Jesus Christ himself, no one requires an 8 hour funeral.  Good lord. ACK!

Eight hours is too much, yes. Two hours is too much.

One hour and I'm out.

I like the idea of discussing social obligations and time limits.
