Found this on imdb... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379786/board/nest/15883245It's a bunch of people claiming to have seen an advance screening of the firefly movie. Views are mixed. People who like JWs stuff and firefly itself liked it. Those who didn't, didn't. Note that the way these things work the audience don't know what film they are going to see before they turn up. So 98% of the audience had probably never heard of Firefly and were probably hoping for something else. What makes this vaugely post worthy is that it does suggest that the film really has actually been made - I rather expected this one to get lost in the works.

I just don't think that Firefly was the stuff of movies. It would have been a pretty good TV show had it been allowed to mature, but even though I enjoyed the show I'm not particularly in a hurry to see the movie version.

I agree that Firefly would have been much better if it stayed as a TV show... however, after Fox has a seizure and canceled the show, the only way (per the contract) to get any more Firefly within the next 8 years (or was it 15 total? hmm) was a movie deal.
Sucks balls, but I'll deal.. I like the show (one of my favs) more than enough to at least check out the movie when it arrives.

The 'not really suitable for a movie' thing is why I expected this project to be still born.
I'm just hoping for a 90-120 minute episode of the TV show which would be a more than adequate use of an evening of my time. When it comes out on DVD.

Which is pretty much what I expect. Firefly is one of those you either like it or you don't things. If you didn't know what you were getting into beforehand, it'll likely turn you right off. I've a friend who loves Buffy and Angel and sci-fi in general, but just couldn't get past the "Western in Space" feel of the show. While I can't stand Buffy and loved Firefly.

My hope is that the movie does well enough to warrant another shot at a tv series.

Have you tried the internet? It's made out of millions of people missing the point of everything and then getting angry about it

Personally I think Firefly is the best science fiction television show ever created. While a show like Babylon 5 has better eye candy and a more epic scope, Firefly succeeds because of its characters. They are well written and supported with great dialogue. The smaller scale makes things more human, more believable. These aren't people in suits on a bridge commanding history-making battles, they aren't playing out melodrama with muppets or living in a universe filled with aliens that all speak english and are just one facial prosthetic away from being human. They're just a bunch of normal people trying to make a living. They aren't goody two shoes following a prime directive, they exist in a moral gray area like we all do. That kind of setting just opens you up creatively to better stories and themes more grounded in reality. It's really a tragedy it was cancelled so quickly, the first season was so good and there was a ton of potential that could have lasted the show years.
Anyway, yeah, I'm looking forward to the movie. :-D

While I can't stand Buffy and loved Firefly. Same, Buffy is crap. It will cost less than a dollar to watch Serenity via Netflix. How can I say no to that?

They're just a bunch of normal people trying to make a living.
Except for the ex-soldier who trusts no one. And the chirpy mechanic who is a genuis with starships. And the book-learned hooker. And the brooding teen psychic. And the preacher with a mysterious past. I think it would be more accurate to say that these are people who would like to be normal, but aren't. The specific issues that a lot of the characters deal with are just as intangible to you or I as any given scenario on a Star Trek program. Rounded off with witty dialogue and snappy comebacks for all, Whedon's characters come off like comic book ensembles that are larger than life but wish, deep down, that they could be like everybody else. (Appropriately, he's actually writing for one of the X-Men books now.) The characters certainly have agendas that are predominantly more realistic than any Federation captain's, but I think it's incorrect to say they're just "normal people", which I've heard time and again about Firefly. Not that any of that is necessarily bad... keep in mind that pretty much every "normal people" show is reality-based.

I think by "normal people" people are trying to saying they are more plausible people; you could actually see them as having existed naturally in the universe in which they are set. Compare that to, say, Dylan Hunt in Andromeda, or Captain Archer in Enterprise, who don't seem nearly as believable in their roles.

Despite the fact it's a cartoon, I can't help but notice how heavily Firefly borrowed from Cowboy Bebop. And how much more I enjoyed Cowboy Bebop (a lot) more than Firefly. I imagine Whedon had a terribly hard time telling a story in the fixed length of a movie. It normally takes him about half a season to come to a major plot point. Yes, I realize I'm in the minority here thinking he's terribly boring.

I can't believe so many people watched the show...
I dont have time for any TV really anymore. I stick to almost entirely animated things as it makes me feel like a kid which is nice. I watch the new Ghost in a Shell show on some saturdays and I watch The Shield everthing else is just when the servers on x game are down or I'm too drunk to deal with the mental stress of hand-eye coordination.
I thought the internet / better-bigger-faster-more mainstream video games were going to kill tv?

A nation consists of its laws. A nation does not consist of its situation at a given time. If an individual's morals are situational, then that individual is without morals. If a nation's laws are situational, that nation has no laws, and soon isn't a nation. -William Gibson

We watched it on DVD, since Fox only ran it for a few weeks. If you haven't seen it, you should. :)

I still loved the sound of this:
He robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor stood up to the man and gave him what for our love for him now ain't hard to explain the hero of Canton the man they call Jayne
our Jayne saw the mudders' backs breakin' he saw the mudders' lament and he saw the magistrate takin' every dollar and leavin' five cents so he said "you can't do that to my people" he said "you can't crush them under your heel" so Jayne strapped on his hat and in 5 seconds flat stole everythin' Boss Higgins had to steal
he robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor stood up to the man and gave him what for our love for him now ain't hard to explain the hero of Canton the man they call Jayne
now here is what separates heroes from common folk like you and I the man they call Jayne he turned 'round his plane and let that money hit sky he dropped it onto our houses he dropped it into our yards the man they called Jayne he stole away our pain and headed out for the stars
he robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor stood up to the man and gave him what for our love for him now ain't hard to explain the hero of Canton the man they call Jayne
It's rare that my wife and I enjoy the same thing on TV. (The Shield, Battlestar Galactica and Firefly are about the only thing I have watched with her in the past 4 years).

My wife and I both enjoyed Firefly during its limited run on Fox and then again on DVD. We also both enjoyed Angel and now Battlestar Galactica.
I cannot understand her unnatural obsession with those Wonderfalls and Veronica Mars shows, though.

Wonderfalls was just the bee's knees. What a terrific show. Both myself and my wife were big fans and really badly disappointed when it got yanked off the time-slot-of-doom.
It was really great that they released all 13 episodes on DVD. Makes it more of a crying shame how badly Fox mismanaged the show right off the air. I want another season DAMNIT.
My wife was watching Veronica Mars last night when I was reading. Really, not a bad show. Then again, I liked Dawson's Creek, so my perception of what's acceptable male TV viewing is a bit skewed.

Oh like 'Joey' Potter wasn't a good reason to watch the show the first season?

That was my first reaction as well- her and that other tramp that was on there (Williams). I never did see an episode, but an eyeful of those broads couldn't be all bad.
